My steroids dose started with 80 mg last month when diagnoised with almost nil platelets count ( started with excessive mensturation bleeding, petetchia and nose bleeding) and now reduced to 30 mg as count has stabilized to @2 lacs again since last two weeks. I got today severe knee joint problem, just untolerable, is it normal? how to deal with it? :(
Yesterday I was quiet active, had good morning walk, full active day t home and was feeling very positive, but in morning today, I felt very uneasy and throat pain and weakness. And in afternoon severe, untolerable knee joint pain, unmanageable with hot water bag, creep bandage any other home remedies :( I am confused whether its a side effect of steroids or tiring day yesterday???

I once had sudden knee pain from Prednisone. It felt like my knees were on fire. At the time, I thought it was due to water retention/swelling in the knees. It began in the middle of the night. I reduced rhe dose (per the doctor) the next day and it began to go away.

I'm not sure what is causing yours, but if it doesn't let up, call the doctor.

I'm an ITP teen's mom, not an ITP patient, so I've never been on long-term steroids. I was on prednisone, however, a couple years ago, for 14 or 21 days (can't recall duration) for a severe poison ivy reaction. As I tapered down, every bone and joint in my body began to hurt excruciatingly, and I started having sweats so severe I lay around in a terry cloth swim coverup with nothing underneath. I was drenched and felt like someone was twisting each leg at the knee, each arm at the elbow, and each finger at each joint. It was always worse at afternoon and evening. I also was a raging bear of a person, easily agitated, as the dose tapered downward. Did you go from 80 to 30 right away, or taper down? Have you talked to the doc who prescribed the steroids? You may need a more gradual taper downward as you leave 30 and head toward a lower dose, especially if you are working, keeping a house and kids, or trying to do anything more than tending to your own health. (I felt it was all a bit too much as I tapered downward, and that was with a predpack designed for that purpose.)
