Hello!
I was diagnosed with ITP almost 7 years ago. My platelets count has always been below normal (average with prednisone treatment 80,000)
During the past year I've been showing some additional abnormal blood values such as slightly low hemoglobin and hematocrit and also high levels of lymphocytes (around 50 - 55%)

So far, I don't see my doctor concerned. Should I be? Do I need a second opinion?

Thank you in advance for your advice. ;) :)

If your haemoglobin is a bit low try eating more iron rich foods. And it is normal for the lymphocytes to be high when on steroids. It's not however a good idea to be on steroids for long as they do have permanent side effects. There are other treatments to try.

What are your counts when not on Prednisone? I would not rely on Prednisone to sustain counts. As Ann mentioned long term use can have permanent side effects. Have you tried other treatments?

If your doctor isn't worri4ed, you don't need to be worried either. Blood counts sometimes fall out of range, but that doesn't mean anything is wrong. Have you asked him?
