Well, what got your count up to 83? What have you tried?

Shame on your wife for making you think it is an inconvenience, if you have to be hospitalized due to ITP issues!! Does she think you enjoy this? As Sandi mentioned, what got your counts to 83 and what treatments have you tried?

You're probably assuming that your wife is feeling "inconvenienced" only because you BELIEVE you ARE an incontinence, and she's picking up on that.

The reversed happened to me when my wife had broken her knee, and needed a lot of care from me.

I had NO qualms about tending to her for nearly 6 months, doing all the chores, cooking, wash, shopping, helping her dress, bathe, feed herself, get to the doctor for her checkups, even get in and out of bed - etc. but, she felt I was getting frustrated and aggravated with her. It turned out she was just projecting her OWN frustrations on me.

You're may be just feeling frustrated and helpless and she's reading that, and probably feels frustrated FOR you, so both of you are going to be at odds.

One IV of Platlets, 100mg of Prednisone for 6 weeks, 4 treatments of IVIG, 2 treatments of IVIG while waiting for Prednisone to kick in, didnt happen. 1 treatment of IVIG to get me in a safe zone while they transfered me to Maine Med Center in Portland, Maine on July 3rd. Only went up to 12 on the 4th. On the 5th when the Hemo Dr. came in was down to nothing. Started me on 40mg of Dexamethasone for 4 days. Also started me on Rituxan. Had the first dose in Maine Med. Center. Sat the 7th was up past 30, Sunday was 83 and they let me go home. Monday at the VA before my last dose of Dexamethasone I was at 138. Went back in thursday the 12th for 2nd bag of Rituxan and I was back down to 20. Today was back down to nothing. (But I am in a better mood than I was last night.) They wont send me back to portland because I was only clear for surgery, and they tried other drugs instead. So chief of surgery wont let Hemo Dr. send me back to MMC because they could have done that at the VA. Hemo Dr tried to get me into Boston VA today for surgery, but she just found out that I would have to sit there all weekend till at least monday. She still couldnt get them to take me. So,...wait till monday for another blood test to show them its not working. Maybe if Im lucky Ill have to go into ER at the VA this weekend and they will transfer me to MMC in Portland. IT's about 2 hours closer, Ive been there once and i trust them.
Thank you, Neil.

No, she ask me if they wanted me to go back in the hospital just because my platlets are low cant I ask them if I can just stay at home untill the surgery, because its kind of a big inconvenience.?? I dont know, It suprised me. Maybe just a bad day.

Why not get it out in the open and talk to her about what she said and how she made you feel by saying it?

There is still a chance that Rituxan will work. It can take 4 to 12 weeks after the first infusion.

Always hard on the families, I agree with Tad maybe with the meds you are having you maybe feeling things more then usual, I used to feel like I was a big burden on my family and steroids tend to make feelings a thousand time worse then they really are.
I think a big thing with ITP is that other people look at you and think that you look ok so you must be ok, and most of the time you are ok.
I also agree with Melinda you need to talk to her, try to find out what her thoughts are maybe not as bad as you think.
I find things have got a whole lot easier with time

There is no practice run in life.

Good Luck Neil!! Hope the Rituxian works for you. Do not expect an immediate response. It can take several weeks after the last dose.
