Could my ITP be Acute???? was created by mothergoo
I was diagnosed with ITP last Friday.. I have been reading alot of others post and was questioning if mine might be just a one time case.. Ive noticed alot of others dropped really low like in teens and lower. Mine at its lowest so far was 25,000. Ive had it tested 2 days later after being on 140mg of prednisone and it went to 134,000.. three days later it dropped to 100,000(today).. Im now getting tapered down and on 100mg.. I go back Monday to get checked again. Anyone out there had a one time episode of ITP? I guess Ill just have to wait and see.

There's really no way to know at this stage of the game whether your acute or chronic, only time will tell... Just take it one day at a time for now. If you keep worrying about something you have no control overb your just going to stress yourself out... and stress is bad for your platelets too.

There isn't any correlation that I know of with count number and being acute or chronic. Especially with children who are usually acute, they can have counts at 1 one week and be over it the next.

I might also add that if you can hold counts above 20 then you might find that after a while you give up treating and trying to get a normal count and just live with it. At a count of 20 or so you can do pretty much anything except maybe contact sports. I used to carry a few plasters (band aids) in my bag for cut fingers and so on. I forget to now but I should really because little cuts do need a plaster to stop bleeding.

Everyone is right - no way to know at this point. When I was diagnosed, I was at 50,000......just happened to have a CBC that caught it. If I would have treated at that point, counts would have gone up. I didn't treat, and in the following weeks they dropped to 8,000. Yours could have too if you wouldn't have been diagnosed when you were. You never know.

Even if you're not acute, you had a great response and can manage ITP if and when it ever relapses.

thanks Sandi.. My count today dropped to 80,000.. he lowered my prednisone to 80 mg and I have a bone marrow test scheduled for thursday morning... kinda nervous about that.. but I did find out he is one of the doctors thats ok with maintaining me 50,000 and up... Im really thinking of going to a different doctor because he doesn't explain nothing to me.. everything I find out is from research Ive done.. he keeps asking the same questions about what meds I take and have taken..Im like ok its in my chart cant u review before u speak to me. ask if im ok.. any new bruising, and lowered the dose and said see u in a week.. Then the nurse calls me 3 times today to ask me different questions.. like did Dr.Karie send you go to Quest to give blood work?... Im like no its not in my chart? the only blood work yall have done was the finger prick the first visit and todays finger prick.. wow Im really doubting this doctor.. Ive asked him from what I read if maybe the UTI i had and antiobotics I was taking may have given this to me?? he is like no.. he didnt know what started it..( which I know they can't diagnose why u get it) I really just dont know if I have faith in this doctor..just had to vent.. Thanks for reading..

A second opinion never hurts. You need to trust your doctor.
