  • I was diagnosed with ITP at the age of 22 with a count of 6500. I fully recovered and was told it was a one time thing. 13 years later, it returned with a count of 19k. I have been stable for 6 years after 2 rounds of Rituxan.

What to Expect from Rituxan was created by mstrux
Hello! I have my first infusion on Tuesday and I have no idea what to expect. I have avoided reading too much online because of the scare factor, and all my hema tells me is that it's no big deal.

Can I eat beforehand? Should I expect to be 100% normal the rest of the day and days following? I get my daughter on Wednesday from my ex-husband and I'm just wondering if I'll be back to normal.

I've read on here that most people seem to be fine. I'm mostly worried about that day and the following.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Meghan

You can eat before, and/or bring food with you. It's a long time to go without food!

Hello I'm new to this.
I start my fist treatment in 3 weeks.
I have many questions about this also.
Right now I just want to say good luck and and I hope it works for you.

Rituxan for me was pretty uneventful. I slept through the infusions because of the pre-meds (most people will receive Benedryl, Tylenol and possibly Solumedrol). I was a little groggy that night, but fine for work the next day. I actually felt great the following day, probably because of the Solumed.

For some reason, I wasn't afraid of the treatments. I trusted that I was in good hands. The infusion is started slowly, and sped up if no reactions occur. The nurses monitor people closely, taking blood pressure and pulse frequently. I'd have to say that it really was no big deal....just a boring day.

Good luck to all of you.

Meghan,
My doctor gives me benedryl and hydrocortisone. Because of that I am groggy and need someone to drive me home. I'm tired that night but okay the next day. If you have any reaction, they will slow the drip down. You should bring something to eat and something to read or listen to.

Thank you so much guys. I tend to be pretty adaptable and not too much of a worry wart, but I just had no idea what to expect. I have no allergies to anything so I'm hopeful I'll sail through the treatments. My mom is going to drop me off and pick me up (probably sit there the whole time knowing her) so I'll be in good hands. My boyfriend is leaving work a little early in case I need him at home. I am lucky to have a great support system!!

I can handle anything if I know what to expect. It's the not knowing that makes me crazy!!! I feel much better now :)
