When I said I wanted my senior year to be unforgettable this wasn’t what I meant:unsure: it was back in November when I started getting sick with strep and tonsillitis I was in an out of the hospital with being sick so they decided to take out my tonsils:ohmy: , I was scared but more mad that I wasn’t going to be able to play on my  varsity basketball and softball team specially since I was starting string, I got my tonsils taken out in December and got sent home later that day and woke up that night 3am chocking on my own blood cuz something went wrong and I was bleeding every ware, we got to the hospital and they rushed me to the O.R and pumped my stomach of over 20 cc of blood and sent me home I ended up coming back a couple days later with a really bad bloody nose that wouldn’t stop and blood blisters all over my mouth they took my blood and ran tests and told me I had itp my count was at 3k An my hemoglobin was rally low I almost got a blood trans I got hospitalized and transferred to the u of m hospital and stayed there for like a week and a half, I had gotten several ivig treatments and responded great minus the reaction I got if there was a side effect I got it, but I always have to go back about every 2 or 3 weeks cuz my counts so low when I went to prom I was covered in bruises and looked like my boyfriend beat me but at least I got to go cuz I was so close to not being aloud, its going on 8 or 9 months now and granted iv hated siting on the bench with my basketball and softball seasons but it also changed my life and I got my life back on track getting itp was made me realize that you’re not invincible and anything can happen so make the best of it.

Thanks for sharing your story with us. I'm glad that you didn't have to miss out on your prom. I hope things get easier for you.

I think all of us who have had a life threatening disease feel changed inside. You tend not to take life for granted and even small things become gifts that bring a lot of joy.

Hi Heather,
glad to hear you got to your prom. Life can be hard sometimes, but we just have to deal with the low points, enjoy the good times an Plan Ahead so we can get the most out of what opportunities we have available to us.

Iam 66yrs old so my prom was a while ago, but I can remember my daugthers, who is now 38yrs. The excitement in the house before her boyfriend picked her up, (now her husband, plus 2kids).
Couple of years later same excitement again before our son left the house to pick up his girlfriend. So have some idea of just what it meant to you to be able to go.

Understanding your not invincible is also hard. I will be 67yrs this month and still have things I want to do and places to go. We have planned a trip to South America in Feb/Mar along with some good friends, paid for flights & cruise. My counts have dropped and my Haematologist now says he may not give me a clearance to go. On Prednisone at the moment to get them up, but nothing happening. But Iam still alive, have a great family, and friends. So focus on the good things in your life, if you have trouble finding them, well polish some of the bad ones, and make them as good as they can possible be. Wishing you plenty of Platelets to come.

Kind Regards,
Benny.

Hi Heather,
What a great attitude you have, and if ITP does anything for you it certainly teaches you to appreciate the thing in life that really matter. I am so happy that you got to go to your prom and I am sure that night will be a life long memory.
Maybe one day someone will find an answer for all this and this will be a distant memory for all of us.
I just hope that you continue with your life doing all things that you want and you can find a treatment that will help you to do this. I have a feeling that you will not let this stop you, you sound such a positive person.

There is no practice run in life.
