ITP and high altitude?! was created by chellapop32
Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with ITP a few months ago so am new to all of this. My boyfriend and I are planning a ski trip to Colorado in March and I'm worried about how I'm going to feel at the high altitude, particularly on the mountain. I've read some conflicting research regarding the effect of altitude on platelet counts but the data are conflicting. My counts are not low enough for treatment, but I'm still worried. Does anyone have any first-hand experienced with this? Many thanks!

You've already found that the research is conflicting, well, a year or two ago there was a big discussion about altitude and platelets on this board and the experiences of members was also conflicting! There were several who had improvements in platelet counts that seemed to be related to high altitudes and a few with contrary experience. You can probably search for 'altitude' and find the discussion.
