I think im obsessed with this now. Cant seem to stop researching, but the doc might actually be right even though she did not give me information on the whole thing.

So I have CMV virus, doc recons its primary infection. Not many people have been found to have Thrombocytopenia due to CMV but there has been a few. In my research it would suggest spontaneous recovery and the virus could be active for upto 20 weeks thats if I have read it correctly. so only another 12 weeks to go, got to love this waiting around.

Can I also just point out that even though it is a very common virus i did not know anything about it untill recently. what a horible virus it is, mainly for unborn babies.

so I am guessing I will know more next week if the virus is still active or that. I really hope this is the cause for low platelets. or would that be too easy.

I once researched CMV because I thought I had it. Low platelets and high lymphocytes are common. My counts were lower during that time but went back up after a few weeks.

Lymphocytes? are they part of the liver function test, she hasnt told me what part of the liver function test was high and I had these tests done 4 weeks ago am only finding out now about virus.

If it is CMV should my platelets be more responsive to the IVIG as they rose to 86 then dropped to 40 within 6 days?

I am going armed next week with a list of Qs. I am afraid of Docs, any tips on how to be more assertive with them. Am guessing with my immune system being supressed by the steroids that the virus will most likely be active for longer. Do you think I could ask for a copy of my blood results?

Thankfully the university staff have been very good, as I explained my undiagnosed auto immune thing the first thing the tutor asked me was if I had lupus.

p.s would pains in pelvic area/ lower abdomen and also accross shoulders be related to steroids? never had these pains before and they dont seem to be muscle pain.
Thankyou Sandi, hope you are well.

No, lymphocytes are white blood cells. Mine were high and flagged as atypical. How did they confirm the CMV diagnosis?

I don't know what treatments a person would respond to if they have CMV.

I always get copies of my blood tests. I have a book filled with them.

I've never heard of pains like that being associated with Prednisone.

Yea but you have a fair idea of all the tests, you could probably diagnose a fair few people yourself, had you the right equipment. I dont have the best memory to retain all the info and my hands never move fast enough to get all written down.

Aw well will know more next week, untill then i will just be reading on here a fair bit.

Thanks, Sandi.
