I am new to this site and wanted to know your thoughts. After a splenectomy about two decades ago my platelets have been in the normal range. I had a healthy and beautiful baby boy last year and the platelets stayed in the normal range during my pregnancy. I was told beforehand that vacuum extractor delivery was not an option because of risk (although small) that the baby had low platelets. However he was delivered with the help of vacuum after a prolonged and difficult delivery. The odds were not in our favor as he had low platelets and had to be in the NICU for a week. Have you ever heard of a vacuum extractor delivery rather than a C-section when the mother has ITP?

I think it's amazing that the doctors recognized that there could be a risk to the baby. Many would not have realized that the baby could have low platelets even though your counts are fine.
