Pred and headaches??? was created by Angelalogin
Joshua, has had two episodes now of what seem to be migraines...he just says he has a headache, vomitts everything for 5 to 8 hours and sleeps in between vomitting and then just as abruptly as it starts it stops... Ive both times now been able to feed him chewable Tylenol tablets in quarters over an hour and then he has about a 40 minute nap, and bingo bango all better!?!? Can this be the high dose pred causing the headaches? He's not grabbing his head and screaming, no other bleeding, numbers between 75 and 100 both times...He's never had headaches before other then when he's getting a fever. No stomach bugs going through the house so its not that either..
Any ideas?
Oh btw, the first time was about a month ago, and the last time was last weekend.

I get headaches and sometimes migraines, but i don't think it is the pred causing it, as i have always seemed to be prone to getting headaches even when not on pred. I was just looking at side effects and it does seem to mention headaches as a side effect. Everyone is different and can experience different side effects so it is possible. If it is continuing to bother him, maybe go and see your GP or his hemo and get it checked out.

When I was on pred I had fewer migraines - much fewer. But I'm not comfortable generalizing to kids from adults. Talk to his doctor!

Hi. My son, Ashe (15 years old), was on 120 mg of prednisone per day for two weeks and has just tapered down to 60 mg a day. He has never had headaches in his life (except for fevers) before the steroids. He now has regular headaches, but not migraines. I'm not sure if this helps or not....but thought I'd share.

Hi Page, yes thank you it helps alot...I don't think they are migraines per say, he's not grabbing his head and screaming, he's just saying when he wakes up that his head hurts, the vomitting Im not sure where that is coming from, but I know when I have migraines I could just sit and cry they hurt so bad, he dosn't cry, just complains about the headache. He never had headaches either before the pred unless he had a fever and its only been since his numbers have been much higher then the 2's and 3's that he started out on. He's on soooooooooooooo much medicine now I wouldn't be a bit suprised if one or all of those causes the headaches and stomach problems...I thought he was on alot before, but wow, I have to write a list now so that I don't forget! LOL
Thanks again for everyones input!

I really don't know anything about prednisone and children, but my first reaction to reading this is that you should get it checked out. For some reason I'm thinking that throwing up with headaches is not a good thing! I dunno, just my thoughts.

My daughter has been on prednisone waaaaaaaaaaaay too long and has never had any problems with headaches. That does not mean too much considering all kids are different and need to be treated as such. I will say that what does give her headaches, without fail, is IVIG. As for the severe headaches and throwing up, I agree that it does need to be checked out and addressed so you can get some kind of care management for it.
