(just in case this word doesn't appear in American english, it means whine, complain!)

I am really really discouraged by the reappearance of big black and blue bruises on Dougie's legs in the past few days. He hasn't had bruises like this since last October, and I had almost forgotten about them. I know his count has been up and down and all over the place, but I think I had kind of assumed that his "bottoming out" figure was now more than single digits. Now I am not so sure because he only used to get this kind of bruises when he was under 10K. I don't like single digits - I can cope with 15K or so without too much worry, but the possibility of 8s and 9s again is making me a bit panicky.

Dougie went to an intake day at his new high school last week prior to starting in September. I was so worried about the state of him that I went in to explain to the his new form teacher why he looks like he does; it might sound daft, but I was really concerned that some teacher who didn't know about his ITP would see the bruises and phone social services or something, because it honestly looks as though someone has beat him up with a cricket bat! It was actually really useful to speak to her though, and I know now what they have got in place to keep him safe when he starts in September (LOL, they have one system whereby they take like a mugshot of the kids they need to keep an eye on, add some words to explain what the problem is, and they stick them up on posters in the relevant places - PE department, staff room, etc - its like a WANTED poster!).

Right enough moaning - Dougie is on a sleepover at his friends tonight, so I bet he isn't wasting his time worrying about sodding platelets....

Ali ;)
