Hi.
My 15 year old son is newly diagnosed with ITP as of February of this year. platelets continue to drop to 10k after IVIG in 2-4 weeks. We have had four treatments of IVIG and apparently ITP is not going away. We were going to travel to visit family but are afraid the flight itself causing issues. Has anyone encountered problems flying and having platelets drop further due to cabin pressure? Should I purchase medical insurance due to his medical instability? I am really stressed out over the illness itself and all the new planning. appreciate any advise.

My consultants will not let me fly with a count below 20. You would have to get a medical fitness to travel agreement to keep your travel insurance company happy. If you fly against medical advice your insurance will not be valid. At least that's how it would go in the UK.
