N-Plate for a teen??? was created by firkins
Hi All,
I've been reading/responding on the FB page in recent months but come to this great site now for a question.

Our daughter Mia (age 15) was dx in March 2012. Has done the normal treatments (ivig, anti-D, rituxan) and was BLESSED to get a response from rituxan - 8 months the first time, 9 months this second go. But now she has crashed again.

So the hematologist is now bringing up N-Plate or possibly a splenectomy. (Wow!) We go in next week to talk to her at length but I was surprised re: N-Plate for a teen (she said they are now starting to use it in older teens?) esp when our daughter does get a pretty great response to Rituxan. My good friend is an oncology nurse and she says the longitudinal studies just aren't there for N-Plate -s he worries about it on one's vascular system -- not that Rituxan is that old either. Plus, you are then really wedded to weekly injections. why do that if anything else works?

I'd be really grateful for any thoughts on and/or experience with this.

Firkins (mom of Zoe (15) and Mia (13). Mia has ITP. Diagnosed 3/2012.

Hi Firkins, I have no thoughts and no experience, but just wanted to wish you all the best in finding a solution that works for you all. I am sure that there is a good one out there somewhere :)
