Hi All,

I hesitate somewhat to post this as I know how hard it can be to have your child struggle along with low platelets and read about some child's high ones. But I post with the intention of 'hope is out there." I was interested to just read a post by someone whose child had very low platelets for years and years (5 yrs I think) and they returned to a normal level without any treatment. There is all kinds of hope out there.

Mia finished her 4 doses of rituxan at the end of January. Her counts have gone up steadily. Yesterday she came in at 191K. Thrilling, really. We know full well this "remission" may last a month, a year, longer if she is fortunate. ITP really does teach one to take each day as it comes. We are really grateful for the knowledge, support, and insight we gained from this site to help us make the decision to do rituxan.

Prayers that others may find ways to high(er) platelets.

Firkins (mom of Zoe (15) and Mia (13). Mia has ITP. Diagnosed 3/2012.

Hey, you shouldn't feel bad about telling people good news! Its great that Mia's counts are stable and long may they stay there, because she's had a hard time with ITP. I hope you are both enjoying a worry free time. :)

The thing with great health news is that it's not like there is only so much to go around. Your great news doesn't take away from anyone else, it just provides more hope and a reason to celebrate.

We love good news.. I will admit there have been posts I have read and said wish I could say that, but I have always been happy for them! Few months back there was a little boy here I prayed so hard for, I had trouble falling asleep nights thinking about him and his family, eventually a treatment worked and I could not express my joy in words..I was overjoyed for them!!! Mia deserves this as do you, and please continue to share the positives.. we are so happy for you, and for us it reminds us it can happen and gives us the strength to continue thinking positive....

New update on Mia, now 3 months out from last of 4 rounds of Rituxan:

Mia continues to do great. Haven't had a blood count in a month or so, but she seems fine -- no bruising, pettichae or anything. In fact, she got her first period just this past week, and I"m glad that, despite a rather long go of it, we would focus all our energy on the silly and fun parts of it (though the cramps weren't fun!) and basically not worry about the bleeding part. Grateful for all these miracles.

Just want people out there to know that you or your child CAN get better. And that not all of us whose kids do go into remission leave this site (though we might not post as much.....)

Wishing for high platelets for all. Firkins
