Low platelets AND low white count? was created by arwen
My 20 month old son was just diagnosed with ITP a few weeks ago and his count was 10. He has had two courses of IVIG and his platelets are now up to 28. He has also been mildly neutropenic over the last few weeks and the pediatric hematologist told me not to worry. Of course, that is easier said than done. Does anyone else have experience with low WBC as well as low platelets? Thank you!! Any information would be helpful!

Ryan's WBC is usually on the low end too. At least since he's bad ITP (14 months now)

Same with Mia who's had ITP since March 2012
Firkins (mom of Zoe (15) and Mia (13). Mia has ITP. Diagnosed 3/2012.

Usually, anything just above or below normal isn't cause for concern. Sometimes treatments can raise or lower whites or reds, so don't worry unless the doctor tells you to. Sometimes I think it's more unusual to have everything actually in the normal range.

My 14yr son who has had ITP since August 2012 is also neutropenic. We maintain him with neukine injections. We avoid treating the low platelets unless he has a bleeding episode. We are trying to find a rhythm for the neutropenia maintenance and investigating the use of TPO drugs for the platelets. Availability and affordability of thenTPO drugs are our problem because we live in Kenya.
