No big deal though, right. I figure its gonna go up and down. They did increase his dose of Nplate though. The Hemonc is not convinced the nausea is due to the Nplate because he said it usually starts with the first dose. I guess we'll see if it persists. Tim did have some bruising this week, so I thought he might have dropped. He also felt his platelets had dropped.

I would still keep an eye on the nausea. It may have been that Tim just didn't notice it since he was on the minimum dose. Caitlin's started right away. Looks like the Rituxan didn't work for her so we will be joining ya'll with Nplate again. Waiting to find out what dose they will start her on and when they will do it.

Oh crap - this was what I was dreading - a drop in Tim's count. I am so sorry to hear that.

You and Pauline are really on my mind lots and I hope that things improve with your kids.

Pauline,
Sorry to hear that Caitlin did not respond to the Rituxan yet. I have heard and read that they can respond several months later, so there is hope. I wasn't aware that she could use Nplate again after having to come off. What did they say about that?

Michelle, I've been thinking alot about you too, and Danica. I hope you get things settled for her and find something that works well. I was trying to read up on Decadron, and every time found something it treated it like any other steroid.

I will watch Tim's nausea. He tends to some mild issues all the time because he is lactose intolerant and a vegetarian, so his tummy tends to be easily upset. I think he might have not realized it at first, though he says, "its totally different than lactose intolerance". I'm gonna try the Tums that Pauline mentioned.

Hi Donna, Pauline, and Michelle

Well, you are ALL on my mind! What a bad week this has been. I hope that the next few weeks are better for you.

I don't know how to say this, but your stories make me realise how "lucky" Dougie is. I know he has problems with ITP, but he is not reaching single figures at the moment (touch wood). On the occasions I feel miserable about it, I look at the other kids with ITP and realise that things aren't so bad after all.

My husband took all 4 boys ice-skating yesterday. Dougie has some spectacular bruises, but no digits were lost!

Ali,
I'm sure I am speaking for everyone when I say we are so happy that Dougie or any other kid doesn't have single digits! Don't ever feel bad or awkward about posting his triumphs and good health :)

This going to be a busy weekend for us too. Tonight we are attending a Passover Sedar with some good friends, and then on Sunday we are going to an Easter Potluck with some people from our prayer community. I'm making a turkey for the potluck.

Sidenote: When I was a kid we always had turkey for Easter (and a ham). I've found in my adult life that most people have ham, or even fish on Easter. I found it very strange, lol. I always associated turkey with Thanksgiving and Easter...and loads of pies. My mom always made like 15 pies for both holidays!

I hope you all have a wonderful Passover, Easter, and Spring Break!

Hi Donna,

I don't feel bad, just lucky at the moment. Its not fantastically good, and it might not last, but while it does, I need to appreciate it. I've never really had to deal with illness before (my own or anyone elses), so Dougies ITP has come as a big learning curve to me. I've moved from thinking it is the end of the world and wanting him treated, to thinking (most of the time anyway) that it is a minor inconvenience and I would need persuading to go down the treatment route. I am not there all the time, and when I get off track, I try to remember how lucky we are - not just about ITP, all sorts of other things too. This site is really good for helping me with that - thank you to all of you for that.

People in the UK didn't used to have turkey for Easter when I was a kid - or even Christmas really - they had chicken or goose, or pheasant or something. The shops are all advertising joints of meat at the moment for Easter Sunday lunch - beef or lamb or TURKEY! I've personally never had ham or fish for Easter, but I don't come from a family that is at all religious, so we might not do things quite as others do. Your potluck sounds like a great idea.

I have a bit of a turkey phobia born of watching Ronald Reagan on TV accepting a live turkey as a present for thanksgiving one year - Ugh! I don't know what it was about it specifically, but it put me off forever - a strange but lasting effect of the USA!!! So I've been down to the farm shop today to buy chicken!

Hope you have a good break

Ali :)

Ali,
Did you miss Sarah Palin's adventure with turkeys during the election? Just awful, that would surely put you off turkey!

Hi Erica,

I must have missed that one! Sarah Palin made the news a bit over here, but not since the election. What did she do??? Even this turkey-phobic is curious now......

Mixture of haha and ugh Erica!!!! Is she stupid?

Just confirms to me that my fear of turkeys is completely reasonable though.
