Not responding & active bleeding

Hi Kym,
There's not some magic bullet homeopathic remedy that works for everyone. Rather the remedy is chosen on an individual basis, taking a person's physical, mental and emotional symptoms into account. Whereas with conventional Western medicine, much importance is given to lab and test results, with homeopathy, the person's general nature and constitution is seen as important, plus their own medical history, as well as the family medical history. More importance is given to strange, rare, peculiar or characteristic symptoms, than is given to the common symptoms. For my daughter, those unusual symptoms led me to find the ultimate homeopathic remedy, called Hepar sulphuris Calcareum.

Kym - a person isn't considered chronic until they have ITP for at least 12 months. You've got a ways to go. Hang in there!

Update on Nolan: Went to the Dr today and his count was at 2k. So far still no response to his treatments. He finished his rituxan last week and was given his 8th nplate this week, each time increasing amounts. They are going to give him 2 more weeks to show a response & then he will be weaned off the nplate. He was also taken off of 1 of his blood pressure meds today and his picc line was removed :)

Next big decision will be between chemo or spleen removal. Difficult to pick between 2 evils.

The Dr said he has never seen a child like Nolan who is a non responder have an acute case. I keep hoping & praying this turns around for him. They will also contact the ITP specialist from Boston Children's that I asked them to. Seems as if they are on the same page or at least a similar one.

Amy - The Salts is that just to help with the blood to work better? I will be posting my story separately. But, my son is in his 2nd bout of ITP and has not responded to IVIG or prednisone. I won't do WinRho, scares me too much in putting another antibody in his body and worried that it could decide to stay and then he would have Evans. Currently his counts was 1K and with prednisone (5 days) we are at a whopping 8K. Plan right now is Rituxan starting Friday. I believe in homeopathy but haven't had a chance to get back to our homeopath (we have been in remission for 5 years and I went back to work and unable to continue it). The hemos are baffled at how well his body tolerates these numbers. He had a bone marrow biopsy and he didn't even bruise... If the salts helped the blood work better, I would be willing to try it. Thanks

Hi Peg,
I think you are probably addressing this to me-'April", not 'Amy"...
I did write in my earlier post on page 1, what each of these will do.
But, essentially, the #2 Calc phos (what bones are made of) will help the body produce any new components of the blood or tissue. That's partly why it's so often needed in children, as they are doing so much growth. It has particular affinity for the components of the blood. It can also help increase the assimilation of food and normalize the appetite (They can either be the child who won't eat anything, and you wonder how they're even still alive. Or, they can be the child who eats and eats and never seems to get full.)It also helps bring more energy to the person. It's known to help in any blood dyscrasia, which means:
a pathologic condition in which any of the constituents of the blood are abnormal in structure, function, or quality, as in leukemia or hemophilia. (or ITP!)

Ferrum phos is the Cell Salt for the Blood:
Biggest remedy in homeopathy for ANEMIA, including aplastic anemia, chlorosis
Anemia from loss of blood
Anemia after radiation, surgery, or drug overdose
NBWS (Never Been Well Since) blood loss
Non-specific hemorrhage
#2 nose bleeding remedy (Phosphorus is #1)
Bleeding from fibroids
Bleeding hemorrhoids
Uterine hemorrhage with bright red blood, and a heavy “flooding” period.
Good for low hemoglobin in pregnancy.
Blood in the urine with no symptoms
Capillary fragility
Bruise very easily

Helps people recover from infectious disease, travel, fatigue or blood loss.
They’re told, “Everything’s fine”, yet they’re still tired, with a loss of vitality, then think of Ferrum Phos.
“Bone marrow transplants”
People coming out of the hospital
Low blood pressure
Poor circulation.

The “Blush” remedy—They often appear healthy and robust, with circumscribed, red rosy cheeks, yet in fact they are weak and anemic. (You’ll frequently see this in rosy-cheeked children-it may look as if someone has painted a circular red patch on their cheeks. Their skin will be hot and dry.)

Ferrum phos is a good remedy for runners and marathon runners, as it increases oxygenation of the blood.
A comment from a race horse owner during one of Homeopath / Naturopath, Robin Murphy’s lectures:
“Ferrum Phos is one of the best lung remedies and oxygen builders – every race horse that used it improved in performance and reduced damage to the lungs”.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, the cell salts help support the blood to be its best, can help rebuild the blood after a big loss of body fluids or an illness, can bring more energy in and can help reduce or stop bleeding symptoms.
They will not cure the ITP, per se (unless one of these happens to be his 'constitutional' remedy,
and so is a perfect match for him.)
I have not read his story, yet. But, I don't understand. It seems he was in remission for a long time. Was that due to getting homeopathic treatment? If it worked that well before, it can work again. I don't understand the thing about not having the time for it now?? If you are finding the time to go and have Rituxan, why can't you make the time to see the homeopath? An initial interview usually takes 3 hours. As your homeopath has already seen him, it shouldn't take as long, though he may have had some changes in those 5 years. When Hannah used to get IVIG infusions, it took 14 hours each week, plus the travel time and waiting room time. A 3 hour appointment with the homeopath is a relative piece of cake!
Also, have you first tried giving him his homeopathic remedy again? Or, perhaps in a higher potency? The remedies do wear off eventually, and need to be repeated if the same sort of symptoms are coming back. Or, if he's going through puberty, this is often the time when many kids will suddenly need a different constitutional remedy. Won't your homeopath take a short call to discuss his case with you, and your options? Also, wondering if you're referring to a Naturopath, rather than a homeopath? Naturopaths usually use supplements, herbs, diets and cleanses, and do lots of tests for food allergies or nutritional deficiencies. They usually use homeopathy in a very limited way. A classical homeopath will usually use a single homeopathic remedy, and the majority of the interview will concentrate on understanding all the unique characteristics of your son. Once a good remedy is found, it will generally remain the same for many years.
As it doesn't sound like he's having any serious bleeding issues, have you considered using the "watch and wait" approach? Just because counts are low does not mean you are compelled to treat. It sounds like his body is compensating really well.
The salts are easy to take. Most kids love them.
Hi April. You are correct, I meant you. What I mean by no time, I have a hard time calling to make appointments during work time. And, I have to so overwhelmed lately with hemp appts and a few others. Aaron was in remission for 5 years but we do not feel it was anything specific from the homeopath or anything we can figure. Maybe a combination of many things over the few years before (homeopathy and special diets, etc.). I am also having alot of stress at home. I do not have support from my husband (long story). Aaron had ITP for 6 years and did respond to treatments for the first few years but after 6 months of constant treatments, we did the watch and wait. He was in a good place and I sought out alternatives to help make him better. We went to a naturopath and we did the testing and did a rotation/elimination diet. It worked very well but one slip sent him crashing. After the 2nd time "I" got him up, his father let him eat something and he crashed and was lower than ever and refractory. We did Rituxan study then. It gave me the strength to not treat even though he was low because our hemp was so conservative (back then, treatment was 20K) and I fought every time and signed waivers. I truly believe that treatments are not the answer long term. It was another 3 years before he went into remission and I did a few more different (some thought crazy) things and a homeopath. He just went into remission suddenly and stayed there 5 years. He had surgery this January and was at 120K (ugh) 6 weeks later, he was at 69K and 2 weeks later 39 and down he went until he pretty much hit 10 and below in June. I sent him to work at Scout Camp all summer with counts of 7-10K. So, I am comfortable with not treating. We opted to try treatments because he needed dental work and we needed to find something for that and emergencies. Seems to have caused more issues. He became dizzy one week and his blood pressure (come to find out) has been slightly elevated for 2 years; so off to his cardiologist. Have had so many appointments as of late. Feeling a little overwhelmed. I just need to get foot hold again. I will try to call tomorrow and see if we can get an appointment with our old homeopath. It has been over 5 years and Aaron is now almost 17 and through puberty. I know our first visit will be a long one. I love our homeopath. I was watch and wait back in the day when it was not "cool". Back in the day, people that talked alternative meds got hammered. It was nice to see the major changes in the medical community on non-treating as well. My hemo pretty much took it in stride when I didn't treat all summer and even the last 3 weeks at 1K. They want to treat but they aren't going crazy and accusing of abuse like before. Nice change. I will look into the cell salt. Not thinking it is a cure for Aaron but just something that might help him with such low numbers. Thanks for your advice.
