Do you mean 21.5mg (I have not heard of that dose) or 5mg pills, 21 times a day!! If so, that is way to much!! 60-80-mg a day is the most I have heard of and that is only for a few days.

She takes 7, 5mg pills tree time a day. So that works out to 105 mg a day

Thank You for the clairification. I think that is excessive for anyone, especially for a child!! How long has she or supposed to be taking this amount?

They started me out at 100mg a day untill she found it wasn't doing anything but making me bigger, like i need that. Im 42 so maybe that why they gave me so much.
They also started me on 10 pills of Dexamethasone today. Don't know the mg.

Dex is 5 times stronger than Pred so good luck with that! I presume it's only for 4 days so hopefully not too bad. Maybe Brianna's is the pred equivalent of a dex pulse. Seems reasonable if so.

Brianna is 10. Had her back today to get bloodwork done her counts are up to 116000 the doctor was very pleased and cut her back to 65mg a day. We have to go back on Wednesday to see if she is going to change it again before we leave to go away.

Oh well, as not a pulse your doctor is being an aggressive treater. All doctors are different so here's hoping it has the effect they desire.

that is high for a 10 yaer old! i am 34 and about 115 pounds and was on 60mg for 4 weeks and was miserable. i was crying all the time, had a major attitude with everyone, only sleeping 2 hours a ngiht because i was up with heart palpatations, and my resting heart rate was over 100! i can't imagine that or a higher dose in a child!

Her doctor is usually not aggressive at all she usually likes the wait and see approach. But Brianna is leaving to go to Alberta on Friday for 3 weeks. Her doctor was letting her go till we found a doctor in Alberta to keep an eye on her counts. She has changed her dose yesterday to 60mg a day and we have to go back on Wednesday. So her counts have gone up to 116000. Now with the lower amount lets see if we are going to get any sleep

The usual dosing for children and adults is 1 or 2 mg per kg of body weight so your doctor has simply gone for the higher option in order to get a fast response. Sixty mgs is still a huge amount, it's the highest I've ever taken so don't hold your breath with getting any sleep! Hope for high counts continuing.

:) had Brianna back for blood work and her counts are up to 325000 this is highest she has been in years, so they cut her dosage back to 20 mg twice a day
