This information about holidays abroad was published in the ITP Support Association newsletter - it seemed timely and I hope you find it useful.

1. Platelet count above 50 - no restrictions on holidays or activities, make sure you get appropriate insurance and take a hospital cover letter

2. Platelet count between 20-50 AND duration of ITP more than 3 months, AND no bleeding in previous 3 months requiring treatment - only travel to developed countries, make sure you get appropriate insurance and take a hospital cover letter, consider packing steroids and tranexamic acid tablets for emergencies

3. Platelet count less than 20 OR platelet count between 20-50 AND duration of ITP less than 3 months, OR bleeding in last 3 months requiring treatment - travel abroad is not recommended. If travel is essential, consider pre-holiday treatment to cover the period you are away.

The guy who wrote this is my son's consultant, and he is usually quite relaxed about things, so I wouldn't think this was an over-reaction or anything.

Firkins, this seems to validate your plans to get Mia another IVIG treatment before Spain.
