I wanna say Sandi had said her sister had ITP and recovered in about a year and it never returned?? I do not wanna put words in anyones mouth I am just pretty sure I remember reading this at one point?? If I have not totally lost my mind..may I ask did she have her counts rise and drop, or were they slowly rising for awhile or did one day she go from low to normal?? My little guy being below 5 for 7 months I just feel so hopeless!!!

Yes, I did say that. My sister had ITP when she was 16 years old in 1983. She was on and off of Prednisone a few times in that year, then went into remission. She is 45 now and has never had a recurrance. I remember that her count was as low as nine, and I'm sure she went up and down. I was newly married and living in another state, so I don't know much more than that. Phone calls were expensive back then.

Crystal - I have been on this board since 1998 (when I was diagnosed). I can tell you that many, many children have gone into long remissions. It didn't matter if they had ITP for 3 weeks, 3 months or 3 years, it can happen at any time. Sometimes a treatment is the cause and sometimes counts just rise slowly on their own.

Please do not feel hopeless. Even the most stubborn cases sometimes suddenly respond or remit. I have seen many children come and go over the years.

Hang in there!

Crystal,

My son Wesley was diagnosed back in april 2002 when he was 2. He had low counts (under 10,000) for almost 3 years. He had WinRho about 30 times, IVIG 3times, IV steroids twice. Then he stopped responding and we watched and waited. After about 3 years he started going up on his own. He bounced all over the place for a few more years. He is now in the 7th grade and has had normal/near normal counts for about 4 years. There is always hope!!! Even for the chronic kids!!

I guess they are talking flu shot because of 6mp, ALSO meningitis I wanna say and a bigger pcv?? Something about they all get like 13, but they wanna give him 23 or something like that?? They are and have been insisting needs to be done cause if he were in an accident or anything he would need his spleen taken and they want him to already have these just in case?? I am NOT happy, his hemo AND 2nd opinion hemo BOTH said they are pretty positive this was all caused by shots in first place!!! (shots June 14th, dxn july 15)
