WOW, Kayla celebrated 1 year on Feb. 1st with NO drops in counts (Feb. 1 2011 12K). And her counts have been higher than typical for her this last year (around 100k)!!!! We haven't had a "Normal count" yet but in my mind she can do anything with these counts.
We have made some changes at home after seeing a Naturopath (sp?), and finding that her phalate levels were hugely elevated, this gave me something to focus on.
(All the doctors have told me there isn't much I can do but to sit back and ride this roller coaster) Me as a mom couldn't do it. So we started by getting rid of plastic from the house, plastic sandwich baggies, ziploc, and Rubbermaid containers, we do not heat ANYTHING in plastic, water bottles etc. We now use wax baggies, and glass containers.
We have also tried to eliminate BPA exposure by doing away with canned food (the lining of the cans have BPA and can seep into food) and bottled water.
We then of course moved to personal care products (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, hand soap, laundry detergent etc..) and have gone organic, with no phalates in the products.
We are working towards all organic food, but it gets expensive.
I wanted to share with you all not that I feel I have a cure, but it seems to be calming her immune system down. What I have read is that phalates, and BPA are endocrine disruptors, which in my interpretation means it's messing up the communication links in the brain.
I have gone through many theories with this crazy roller coaster of ITP and this one actually seems to be making a difference for Kayla:-)

Praying for platelets for all of you!!!

Hi,

Thats brilliant news about Kayla. Long may her platelets remain high.

I can't imagine how hard you must work to cut out plastics though - just thinking about it gives me a headache. I actually do use greaseproof paper bags for sandwiches and we still get milk delivered in glass bottles by the milkman, but EVERYTHING in the supermarket is in plastic these days! Dougie and I dedcided a fortnight ago that a milk and dairy free period would be worth a try and thats been really difficult to do. You wouldn't think that cutting out only one food group could be so difficult. Since his platelets were 12 today, it was also a pretty certain failure!!!! - he is tucking into cereal drowned in milk with gusto as I write! Never mind, it was worth a try.

Crystal she has had ITP for 3 years now, and for the first two her counts were consistently under 70K She had 3 IVIG treatments, and one WINRO. Her Drop last year did not require treatment and she bounced back quickly on her own which was a first. I had started slow with making changes the August prior to that which was when she had her last IVIG.

@ Ali I totally understand, I have tried so many dietary "theories" I sometimes couldn't remember what she was able to have and what she couldn't:-) We have definitely had a learning curve these last few years, but she is even checking labels and more conscious of what she eats. I hope Dougie enjoys his cereal:cheer: He deserves it!!!!!!
