Has anyone's child ever had a platelet count of 1,000? How long did that last? What finally brought it back up? Was your child's condition acute or chronic?

My 9 year old's count has been at 1000 for a while now. He hasn't responded to steroids or IViG treatments.

This is the stuff that drives me crazy
This is the stuff that's getting to me lately
In the middle of my littleness
I forget how big I am blessed
This is the stuff that gets under my skin
But I gotta trust You know exactly what you're doing
It might not be what I would choose
But this is the stuff...

Hi,

Yes. My son was at zero for 3 months. He did not respond to traditional treatments and was considered chronic pretty early on because of his history prior to ITP. We chose to use homeopathy after IVIG and prednisone were very damaging to him. He was 10yrs old at diagnosis. We just had him tested today and I don't have those results yet but his last test was 115,000. Right now he is flucuating between 115,000 and 150,000. He's still very much in healing mode with the homeopathy. When we started treatment it took two weeks and we were at 18,000. In very short order he started going up with each passing test. I would very much encourage you to look into this method of treatment. It is safe, non-toxic, effective, and will heal anything that is wrong in his body (not just ITP). For us, removing 40 food allergies from my son's list was a huge benefit.

Hang in there. As long as he's not bleeding, 1 isn't the end of the world (although it feels like when you're going through it). You might read through the natural treatment section on homeopathy.

Blessings,

patti

The lowest count my son ever had (that we know of) was 7k, and he had an IVIG infusion that brought it up. Since we only know his count when we're at the hemo's office, I don't know if it was ever lower. It may have been. The only treatment he's ever had is IVIG, and he stopped responding to it as well about two years ago. We've been "watching and waiting" since then. It's clear that he drops pretty low and then jumps back up again, but he tends to stabilize around 30 or 35k. His case is chronic; he's had ITP for a bit over eight years now. He's ten.

I hope your child's count comes back up soon -- 1,000 is scary.

Patti - thank you so much for your response. I've been struggling emotionally with this, knowing that he could be at great risk. I jokingly told my husband that you were my new BFF and he said "haven't I told you the same thing all along? Why aren't I your BFF?!"

I most certainly will be looking into more homeopathic methods. My son will be going to an integrative doctor (she is more alternative than our traditional pediatrician) who will discuss running nutritional tests and delayed allergy tests on him. We've discussed the possibility of delayed allergies and gluten sensitivities. I will take food allergies and sacrificing convenience over the alternative.

Thank you for your encouragement. I look forward to getting on this forum more often and hope to find more answers.

UPDATE: Today we had several tests done on my son. He had 7 vials of blood drawn. They mainly involve some delayed allergy testing, antibody and antiplatelet tests, Vitamin D deficiency, etc. Next week we'll have more allergy testing done (celiac, gluten, eggs, milk, etc) as well as ion testing.

We're still on the vitamins! Patti - I'll get to your message soon! Thank you so much for your advice!!!

So today one of my son's pedis called and said that his counts from Wednesday, 12/7, were at 16,000!!! Great...but the regular pediatrician said his counts were 1000, and that was on 12/9, two days later.

Time for a third opinion? We haven't done anything different in 2 days, so either his counts dropped 15,000...or someone's readings were off.
