Hi again, sorry so many questions but I seem to get more answers here than I can anywhere else. So I've been told over and over most kids will be acute and be better within 6 months, has anyone heard or seen a case where they under 5 for 4 months and suddenly counts rise?? I have heard real low counts than next week way up some even normal range, but they seem to be after a shorter period?? I am not comfortable starting 6mp, I am just trying to buy time, but I am very worried about sitting much longer. Thank You's..

I've been around for a long time and I can tell you that with ITP, anything can happen. The six month deadline is just a number; children, or adults for that matter, can go into remission at any time....months or years into the diagnosis. I've seen it happen. They will usually label a person chronic after six to twelve months, but chronic does not mean ITP will be there for life. It just means that the person has had ITP for six to twelve months.

If you are not comfortable with 6mp, is there another treatment you are comfortable with that you could discuss with your doctor?

He has had about 8 rounds of IVIG, win rho twice and steroids, nothing has worked. The win rho made him anemic enough to where couldn't use again for about 2 months, the 2nd time he went from below 1 to 3 sooo comfortable I am a little more comfortable with these treatments mainly because they are so common, and the 6mp will be taken daily for 6 months at 6 months we'll TRY to stop.. That just seems long for such a harsh risky treatment... I think I really get upset knowing there is a chance this will also not work.
