I don't need to worry do I? was created by grasshopper
My daughter always has bruises with hard lumps under the skin. Before she went to bed today I noticed a small bruise (about 1 inch) on the side of her knee, but there was a huge hard lump underneath (huge in depth, not width). It looks just like she has broken a bone, although I know she can't have . It doesn't appear to hurt her anymore then any other bruise, it just looked nasty.

Please can someone just confirm that I am doing the right thing and that it is fine and I don't need to get it checked out. I'm sure I am worrying for no reason now.

I would have it checked out. Maybe not in the ER, but I'd call her doctor about it.

I get hard lumpy bruises. I always just assumed it was a collection of blood there that would gradually be absorbed. I doubt it's anything to worry about but if you are concerned it can't hurt to get it checked.

When in doubt - check it out. A quick MD visit might be worth the price of admission?

My daughter Mia had one of those bruises one time.. with a hard bump. I had it checked out but it ended up being nothing. Go to your hematologist and have them look at it, they're the only ones that are really familiar with ITP. It takes a while for those to go away but they are usually harmless from my experience.

Hi Grasshopper,

I suggest having your doctor take a look at it, just to make sure what it is. It is very likely what is known as an "induration", or hardening that some people seem to form after a bruise. Not sure if the doc will have any treatment for it, though.

If you go to the Natural Treatments section, second page, you will find a list of homeopathic remedies that can be used for specific types of bruises. You may want to read through, and see if any of these fit. Here's the link to my posting: www.pdsa.org/forum/8-natural-treatment-methods/13113-homeopathic-remedies-for-various-kinds-of-bruises.html

The most commonly used remedy for these indurations is Ruta graveolens,
Ruta, from the herb Rue, aka “The Herb of Grace”: This remedy is used for bruises to the bone and periosteum (the thin covering of the bones, where muscles attach), as from pounding on pavement, resulting in shin splints or any repetitive strain (i.e., tennis elbow). Bruised soreness of tendons and their insertions, and bones and cartilages about the joints. Overstrain of the eyes. (computer)
Bruises leave indurations (raised hardenings).
It may also be used externally in tincture over the area.
