I remember the days, so well, when our 3rd grader was suffering with ITP. He had it for 2 years before we finally gave in and decided to remove his spleen. (every treatment they tried worked for a little while but then his counts would go way down again) I often think of you parent's who are going through with this and just wanted to give you an update on how John is doing now. He is 6 foot 6 (prednisone didn't stunt his growth too much):P He is in college, working full time and living life to the fullest. He did stop taking penicillian (his decision) he didn't want to be on it for the rest of his life. He makes sure he lives a healthy lifestyle and whenever he has a fever makes sure to get himself to the Dr's promptly. So I guess I just want to say I am thinking of you all and wishing you the best as you deal with ITP and to give you some hope if you are facing the decision to remove your son or daughter's spleen. Thank God it worked for John.
Blessings,
John's Mom, Mary in PA
