8 Month old recently diagnosed was created by strawberrysmom
My 8 month old baby girl was recently diagnosed with ITP after a blood test prompted by my doctor because of her petechia rash she had for a few months. Right after the blood test I recieved a call that had her admitted to hospital with a platelet count of 12. After her IVIG her counts went up to 124. We wont know if they stay up there until our next visit in a couple of days. I did notice that when she first entered the hospital her White blood cells were higher than normal too, and I am wondering if this is common with ITP or just a coincidence? I understand that it is very rare that children as young as her show signs of ITP and would love to hear from parents who have infants diagnosed and how you deal with learning to crawl, climb, walk, etc?

I don't have an infant. My daughter was diagnosed in Sept and she just turned 6. But I wanted to respond to your post anyway because when you are newly diagnosed it helps to hear from others in a similar boat. We can't wrap our kids in bubblewrap, although wouldn't it be wonderful? Things you might find helpful are things that are going to help your child navigate in a slightly safer environment. You've baby proofed your home probably already and now you have to bump proof, wrap things with hard corners, move away things they can bang their head on, use that play room puzzle like padding for the floor so falling down is softer, maybe make kind of a padded play corner that will make play time not as stressful. I think you'll find this board helpful, everyone's journey is different, but we all appreciate support.
