I don't know why I just thought about it, but i just join this group through facebook.
the little blue box with an f had been staring at me for awhile and obviously I was not paying attention until now so now I'm member of this through facebook. and what a surprise there are all sorts of discussions going on.
anyways see you all here or there. =)

Do you know if there's a way I can join the group, but not have it show on the wall of updates? I just don't want to worry my friends and family.

It's a group rather than joining as a "fan". You have to click on the group link to see the group, you don't see anything in your news feed.

If you do participate in a discussion or comment on someone's post, then your wall has the one liner that you discussed <topic> on the ITP - Platelet Disorder Support Association discussion board. If you really didn't want it seen, there is a "remove" option on the right that you could click on.

You're like me Lorna except it's not that I don't want to worry people, I just don't want my other friends seeing my ITP chatter. I like to keep my worlds apart. So I usually join these groups and then unjoin them a few days later when I have second thoughts.. LOL.
