Are you sitting down here's my exciting news!

My daughter's boyfriend proposed and she said yes. They are planning a Wedding July 2016. We go Thursday to a winery she is interested in using for the wedding. Everything will be in one spot. It will be an outdoor wedding and a cocktail type reception.

My son proposed to his girlfriend and she said yes. They are planning a wedding this June. So far the wedding will be at a chapel. There is talk about going to a Chinese buffet for dinner. Possible reception after that not 100% sure as the plans are still in the making.

So this mama has wedding on the brain. Had to add Pinterest to my cell phone just so I can keep up with my daughters wedding pins!

Happy news Julia!
Our 3 children were married within 5 months, 2 receptions in a marquee on farm. I felt like 'the wedding planner' & sure found a few new talents.
Enjoy the special times ahead.

So now for the not so great news!

Daughter and I went to the winery she wants to use for the wedding and reception. We put the deposit down but I calculated it. For us to give everyone 1 glass of wine to toast with will cost approx. $824.00 Ugh! 65 guests If I buy a bottle of their wine and take it home it costs 14.99 plus tax but when you buy for the reception it is 34.00 plus tax.

My son's fiance is approx. age 43. She has grown children and grandchildren! I have some issues with this but I am just reminding myself it doesn't matter what I think it matters if he is happy!

Julia,
When my kids were planning their weddings I was gobsmacked at the outrageous price hikes for 'wedding' items. We chose to host a couple ourselves, it was a lot of work but ultimately we ended up paying about a third of what it would cost to have them catered for in a reception venue. The girls had their dresses made, we hired a marquee & gear, local groups catered for the meal, family & friends helped out with flowers, cars etc., we bought bulk clean skin wine & labelled it, & so on. It helps too if you live in the country as people are generous & prices are fairer.
The biggest issue we had was the guest list . . . so I suggested we start small & increase with the most significant family & friends. Nine years later my daughter confessed she has not seen or heard of several of her guests since! It sure is a balancing act.
I hope you can work something out where everyone is happy!

Meredithjane - we just got the quote from the winery the cost for the wine was cheaper than I calculated. The quote included the wine, 2 types of hordourves, 2 types of deserts, cost of the second bartender, chairs for the wedding, tour of the winery for 10 people(wedding party), punch station, coffee/ tea station, tea sandwiches, gratuities and taxes. Were at a little over 5,000.00

My daughter and I are looking it over and we have to decide if we want to change things. The final payment isn't due till 2 weeks before the wedding. So we have time and overall the price they gave us is much lower than what most places wanted.

I found out my son will be getting married at our local park. Originally it was to be a chapel but guess they found the cost was too much. They have the permit and are just working on finding a place for the reception!

Sounds like things are moving right along Julia. Didn't you feel better when you found out you had figured the cost incorrectly!

A park wedding, that will be beautiful & June should be good weather for them. You are right when you said '...if he is happy'.
