My Saga!! was created by Christine
What 2 weeks I have had. Some background history - I have a partial upper denture and a crown on my front tooth. I had an infection in one tooth - good news it was from a previous root canal and didn't hurt but the pressure was intensive it was also the tooth that anchors my denture.I went to the dentist and got antibiotics -I suggested pulling the tooth at a later date and fitting a new false tooth on the partial. All great, I pick up my antibiotics, get home and the crown breaks; complete with the "jack o' lantern" look I have the second emergency visit to the dentist in one day!!
As this crown has been a little "unsteady" for a few months I said why not just pull it and make a new partial (we have coverage through my husbands pension plan)
The dentist calls my hemo (they played phone tag for a few days) and because it is Fall my plts are lowish (29K) the nplate is not enough to get them higher so I have n IVIG tranfusion on wed and the dentist pulled the teeth thursday. I had to have a blood test after the extractions and my plts were 160K - I can't remember them being higher that 50k EVER. The blood had a hard time going up the tube!!! I will have the "jack o' lantern" look for e few more weeks and really will be the scary granma I told my grandson I would be at Halloween!!!
What I have learnt from this is that in an emergency things can be done to bring our plts up. Another plug from me - if you are thinking about aq medic alert bracelet or similar - get one as you don't know when you won't be able to talk in an emergency.
I could tell you more but I didn't want to turn this into a literary opus
High platelets everyone - I'll only have mine for a few more days!!! Christine :)
