Hi all,
Just thought I would check in and let all of those that followed Sandi and I methotrexate journey that I have finally got an answer to all my problems, I was hyperthyroid...I had my thyroid gland removed about two years ago, just after I got ITP.

I found a great endo and he checked back through all my tft and over the last couple of years my tsh levels have been dropping due to a higher then needed dose of thyroxine....my last test the tsh levels was 0.

I have been on a lower dose for two months now and I can't believe how good I feel ;)

So never give up, always believe in how you feel and don't be put off by a bad diagnosis.

Platelet levels are currently anywhere between 100 and 140 so all good there as well.

I do check in here every couple of days to see how everyone is going, so thankyou everyone that followed this journey your support kept me going at times when it would have been easy to give up!

Milly my friend you have been taking too high a dose of thyroid med and that is what has been causing you all this trouble?! I am so sorry! But I am so glad it has finally been figured out! That darn thyroid gland [or lack of one] is such a problem - over the past 10 years I have learned to really really dislike [and on the verge of hating] that thing!

Due to Graves Disease I had mine chemically "removed" - endo & hematologist felt that was the best route because of my ITP. Like you my TSH was so low it couldn't be read. Actually I felt quite good then - but can't stay hyperT [or hypoT] as it can really mess you up.

It is so good to see tha tyou are feeling good and your platelet count is good - thank you for coming and letting us know! And be sure you come and give us updates!

Wow Milly! I'm shocked! I can't believe no one thought to check that - you should have your TSH checked periodically anyway, like every six months or so. I'm appalled that you were on such heavy duty drugs for no reason - Methotrexate of all things! Oooo that makes me mad!

It is so good to hear from you and I am so happy that you are doing well now! I have an enlarged thyroid now (discovered last week) so am in the process of a diagnosis with that. It's always something!

Don't be a stranger!

Thanks guys muchly appreciated and Sandi I did have regular tft and was always told it was ok  I never asked for copies of labs so live and learn, the new doctor went back and requested all lab results for the last two years and showed me the decline of the numbers. At first I was angry and upset but after a while I cooled down ans I am now just appreciating feeling good. I now sleep for 8 to 9 hours and haven't done that for soooo long, I have no pain what so ever, head aches gone and that little black cloud that followed me is gone

I will continue to come here because I think all those new to ITP do need to know that life goes on and living with ITP can be done, I help out when I can although I am no expert, just a person that has lived the nightmare of prednisone and the initial worry of this silly thing we call ITP and if I can help someone get through it I am more then happy to do so.

Sandi, I hope things work out with your thyroid, I originally had part of my thyroid removed 20years ago and no medication was needed for that twenty years, but eventually it got enlarged again so they decided to remove it completely.
Again I say thanks, although we are oceans apart every ones support has been amazing!

One thing I know and I always watch out for if my MD tells me my TSH is fine - the American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists [think I have that name correct] says TSH range is 0.3 - 3.0
I had my MD tell me my TSH came back fine - I asked what it was and it was somewhere near 5.0 [the lab has the old range still in place] so I came home and called my endocrinologist, told the nurse I needed a dose change, she told me she didn't think that would happen and I told her OH YES IT WILL HAPPEN! No wonder I was feeling so yucky!

I make sure it is my endocrinologist who sees the results & she and I then communicate either by phone or email about them. My endo & MD are in the same system, so they see everything about me on the computer.

Thanks MJ, It did take a while to find and answer and the thing was I kept bringing this up with every doctor but anyway it is a solved mystery now and I feel really good.

I never really had much to do with doctors before this whole ITP thing started but I have sure learnt alot and the biggest thing is push them, if in your heart you know that something is wrong make them listen.

I hope you and the family are well and it's not to hot down there in SA.

Family all well - expecting another grandie Christmas time.
Nasty hot day yesterday, & a huge crop/bush fire nearby that my husband & son fought with our farm ute & water trailer, alongside many other farm units, fire trucks & plane water bombers! Very scary.
