My friend just got diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. She has an ok job, but horrible insurance, and she's never been good with money (she currectly still owes me about $2000, from when I've bailed her out before) But she's a wonderful person who has a lot of friends. Does anyone know anything about setting up a fund for her treatment? Or have any fundraising ideas? I'm still trying to digest this as we have know eachother since we were 11 and now at 27 she has stage 1BII cervical cancer.

Hi barrelgal,
A few months ago a guy in our community, who is a gem, was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Everyone was devastated. Someone opened up an account at the local bank titled 'the ....... family fund' & asked anyone who wished to do so to contribute. Several thousand dollars was raised for the family. He is on chemotherapy treatment & responding a lot better than first anticipated.
The other thing that I thought of is having a morning tea or evening meal, where everyone has an opportunity to donate. There are other ways of helping your friend as well, such as physical & emotional support. There are many needs in this situation, not all financial.

PS Today his son & mates are riding 138 kms in the Cancer Council's Ride for a Reason bike ride, as part of the Tour Down Under. Their team has raised over $8,000 so far for cancer research. (If you are interested check it out at www.rideforareason.com.au ) :cheer:

Just to update this. I found a fundraising site that I really like. They allow people to make online donations and help you set up a page. If anyone else needs to raise funds for medical expenses etc I reccomend giveforward. I also looked into fundly and a few others. They all take a % of donations, but I don't think we would have gotten nearly the amt without their service. As of right now we have raised over $7000 ($5000 online and $2000 offline) for my friend so if anyone needs any help or tips I'd be happy to pass them on. Just message me. I'm including the link to her page purely so you guys can see an example of what these fundraisers can be www.helptamibeatcancer.com
