Completed my first marathon today...

Thought my fellow ITPers would appreciate this... I was diagnosed with ITP in Oct. 2010 and have had up and down counts since ( under 7000 to my highest around 156,000). Pred and Ivig have been my treatment of choice. Started at 80 mg of pred now have finally tapered to 12.5. So I decided to train for the marathon to help curb the pred weight gain and fish face. Ran it today and what an experience. Finished just under 5 hours. I thought I would have had a better time, but I think the fact that I am in the middle of my 4 week rutixan treatment made me cramp up a little early. By the way I didn't want to start rutixan until my wife and I finally got pregnant... fear of side affects. We have been trying for almost two years and are 9 weeks pregnant... Besides close family, I have yet to share the news..

So I know ITP affects us all differently and what works for one might not work for others... IPT is something we have, but it does not have to define who we are... I just wanted to post because after
long half of last year things are looking up..

Thanks,
Pete

Wow, running a marathon while still on pred and in the middle of rituxan treatment! That's very impressive and inspiring. That'll remind me not to feel sorry for myself while on low dose pred.

Also congrats on the pregnancy! That's terrific. It's so nice to hear all of this good news.
