We got hit with an F2. Baaad day, short version:

I was at work and my son called. He said "I don't know what kind of day you're having, but I have to make it worse". He then went on to tell me that he went into my room for a DVD and there was a bird flying around in there. A bird! Yeah, in my bedroom. Apparently, the top of my window slid down and he flew in after I left in the morning.

My mind automatically went to 'dirty' and 'mites' and I started to panic about what he might be flapping into the air in my sleeping sanctuary. I couldn't leave work because my co-workers brother died and we were shutting down the office to attend the funeral. My mind was screaming 'bird in bedroom' the entire time. After the viewing, I left work to go home and deal with the bird (4:00).

I no sooner got home and my daughter called to tell me there was a nasty storm on the way. My son and his girl friend were there. My son happened to look out the back sliding glass doors and yelled "Oh my God - tornado - everyone downstairs"! I grabbed my dog and we started down the stairs, then realized I had to go back up for the other, much older and slower dog. My son yelled at me to get back down and he went for the dog himself (what a man!) I felt bad that he took that role and not me - I'm the Mom. But anyway, he said run so I did.

It didn't hit our house, but there is much devastation in our neighborhood. It got dark after that and we had no power; it was pitch black, so I couldn't get the bird out of my room. He slept well in there last night. I slept in the spare bedroom which is not nearly as comfortable.

This morning I had bird clean up after we got him out of there. I stripped my bed and washed the sheets, then took the comforter to the dry cleaners on my lunch hour. I swept and sprayed Lysol (which probably didn't do a thing, but made me feel better). Tonight I have to breathe bird flap and I'm not happy about that...lots of illnesses from wild birds.

Stressful day. Oz would have been better. I was also trapped in an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

This is our second tornado in 6 years. The first one destroyed my shed. PA isn't supposed to get tornados!

Hi Sandi,
You could write a book on your adventures girl!
Pleased you & your family are OK. Must be frightening in such a storm!
I did think though, that bird coming in may have saved you from traveling during the tornado after work. . .

Maybe the bird knew, much sooner than the humans knew, to seek shelter from what was coming. Glad you're all okay.

Thankfully you and your family are okay. I live in Missouri (tornado alley) when we bought our house it was an old furniture store. We put all the bedrooms in the basement, no windows. Master bedroom even has another plus all the walls and ceiling are eight inchs of reforced concrete. I was a pain and expensive to retro fit, and we still lack a door(it wouldn't match the other doors) making it fully tornado resistant. But we decided after we watched in 1997 an F5 tornado almost remove Jarrell Texas from the map, our next house would have a safe room. We laughing made that the master bedroom 15 x 31 with closet and master bath included. Our kids both now full grown and moved out still make fun of our small safe room.

strange days indeed! I'm very grateful you and your family are ok. As for the bird....ugh! Just thinking about it gives me the creepy crawlies!

Sandi, that is so weird to have two things weird like that happen in the same day. We had some hail near us today and a little here. I know that when it hails you have a chance of having a tornado. Glad there were none. Glad you all are OK.
