I am just wondering what you all would do in this situation...

Suppose you are just sitting and watching football, and you have snacks and such around, nothing special, just an average afternoon. Let's just say that your spouse gets up for a minute and your rather large tom cat (he might be named Joe), gets up and has a couple of bites of your spouses Cheeze its. Not too much, just a bite or 2. Do you say anything, or just kind of look the other way? Just wondering.....

Being an animal person - who gives her granddog licks from her ice cream cone, kissed her cat on her face, kisses the granddog, and so on
why tell her, she probably knows anyway :)

"What the eye doesn't see, the heart won't grieve over!"
The chances are it would be the spouse in our house that would get into the cheezies!!
Anyway animal "germs" are probably healthier than people ones!!!

Ha ha, hilarious!

I had a similar thing occur. Husband brought home take-out hamburgers and fries and set them on the coffee table. Husband went into bathroom. Dog named Snickers went over and helped herself to a few before I could stop her.

Minutes went by and I got involved with my computer. Husband came out of bathroom and ate his food. When he finished, I said, "Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you....."

He doesn't trust me anymore to watch his food.

Having said that, I won't touch anything if my dogs lips or tongue have been near it. I see where their faces go and I am a germophobe (for good reason).

My wonderful dog knew my dad didn't like her on his bed - when he left for work she jumped up and slept on his side mom said :) She also knew when he would get home from work and was waiting at the door for him. He loved her but hated to admit it.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane Sandi - my Nicki was 12 years old when cancer took her, I was 18 years old.

Jeffrey,

So I'm a total animal person. I don't buy snacks very often, but when the snack cabinet opens my dogs are right on the scene. They know they are gonna get a little chip or cheeze it or what not.

Also, I talk about them all the time with my students. Today one student said I should always share my food with my dogs. i said thy eat dog food. he said it isnt good enough, so you can tell your wife Valerie's student said to do it!

On another note I am very appreciative for my dogs. I feel like they are my Itp therapists. any time I don't feel well they lick my face and snuggle with me in the Lazy Boy. I may be crazy, but I think they know when I need rest and love.

Jeffrey - it looks as though I have some good info that can used as blackmail!

Another funny story. The other night, it was 2 a.m. and I had just fallen asleep. I woke up suddenly to the sound of very loud crunching sounds. I turned over, opened one eye, and saw my husband and two dogs chomping on taco shells in the middle of the night. Seriously? Taco shell snacks at 2 a.m.? I wanted to strangle him!

Not crazy at all - dogs, and cats too, know! When our son needed surgery our cat, who picked me for her human, jumped on his lap and started purring to tell him everything would be ok. Pets are very perceptive!

Sandi I'd have kicked all of them out of the room - rule # 1, don't wake me if I do happen to be able to get to sleep - rule #2, no eating in bed [which stems back to living among the roaches in Texas!].

One of my cats has been my constant companion in dealing with my hemolytic anemia over the past 3 months. She loves to cuddle on the couch. I can't leave any food on the table near the couch, she goes after anything. She also is able to open cabinets and if something isn't taped shut she will have a snack.

Melinda - as mad as I was, I couldn't help but laugh. It was just so bizarre to hear all of that racket and realize that the three of them were in cahoots with taco shells. My husband is usually traveling for his job, but when he is home, he always eats in bed. Can't break that. A few years ago he made himself a few sandwiches and put the plate on the bed. He realized that he forgot his drink of water, so went back to the kitchen. When he got back, his sandwiches were on the floor. Apparently, I kicked them off of the bed in my sleep. Well, that'll teach ya!

We had roaches in Texas too but that was a long time ago. We got over that.

We moved away many years ago - but I will not ever get over the roach from my slipper crawling up my leg, the roach in the dishwasher, the roach crawling on the ceiling over our bed, the roach poop spots on clothes in the closets, and so on. And that was with an exterminator coming monthly.

Love the pet stories!

My cats are with me all the time. They are mooches. I feed them off my plate when I have appropriate food. I season chicken special for Joe! LOL He loves grilled garlic chicken basted in butter and topped with rosemary and basil.

I also believe that pets know when things are not right, when your chi is not in balance, and they try to balance it out. They are great ITP therapy. My cats have been with me from finding out about my ITP and my coping and dealing with it. They listened to me yell about it, get mad at it, sob some about it, and deal with it. Do they understand? In my opinion, a definite yes.

We are all the better for them and what they give to us, unconditional love. May God bless and keep us and our animals!

Love the pictures of the dogs, Sandi! I still miss Sasha; it'll be a year next month. When I was on the high dose of pred, my mood swings were terrible and she got the worst of it. She'd bark at nothing and I would just freak out at her. Then I would start bawling and she would come over to me and put her head in my lap as if to say "it's okay, mama, I know you don't mean it". So yeah, I'd say pets are perceptive of what's going on around them.

When we had to have Molly put down, she moped around the house for a long time, we think she was looking for Molly.

Melinda - my husband put on a pair of pants one day and a roach fell out of the pant leg as his foot went through. We had them on the ceiling above our bed, in the refrigerator and anywhere else you can imagine. I had habits like: opening cabinet doors and jumping away quickly in case one fell out, turning on lights at night before stepping into a room, keeping bread in the refrigerator.....ugh, hate to remember those days! I thought I'd never get over it, but I did. We bought those roach hotels and would coax the roaches into them for something to do (young and newly married, I guess we didn't own any games).

Your husband's experience was similar to mine - only I had a young baby in my arms, I put on my robe & slippers, changed our son and was carrying him to the family room to feed him when I felt the roach crawling up my leg - couldn't throw my arms up in the air and scream bloody murder just had to keep walking until I got to family room and could put him down and then rip off my slippers and clothes and have a nervous breakdown!!

weren't roach hotels neat - loved those things. And we would schedule our exterminator to come a couple days after the uphill neighbor had her exterminator.

not sure if it's because of being a leo or my heritage or both - but I never forget!

Jeffrey bugs are a cat's toy - when Killian was alive she loved the springtime when the Miller Moths made their way west, she got so much exercise during moth time.

Want to see those cats of yours, put a photo in the photo thread I started!

I don't much like cats. :P I have my reasons. I'm sure all of you that have cats have absolutely adorable kitties....happy for you.

Melinda - it's the Leo thing that you don't forget. I can only imagine how horrible it would be to keep that baby in your arms with a bug on your leg! That is a miracle to pull that off....takes a LOT of self-control.

We are having a problem with wolf spiders right now. They are huge and hairy. I hate it.

I've seen a lot of spiders around here in Ohio the past few weeks. I think it's just the season for them. Hopefully they will be gone soon.

We usually only see them in the game room downstairs. I've found two in our bathroom in the last week. These are not just spiders....they are huge! I may call an Exterminator. We did some renovations on our house recently and apparently dug up a few nests. I feel invaded.

Good Evening!

It must be the season or year for crawly things! This weekend 4 nest of voles met their end. It was death by Brooks running shoes! Also, a snake was pureed by my mower. It is now a good snake!

I don't much like spiders either. When were in the Yucatan a few years back I was climbing on some ruins that were pretty much straight up and came face to face with a Tarantula. It was brown and about the size of a Ford Focus! I don't know which one of us was startled the most!

You all can have your bugs! LOL

I have a special spray called Spider ban sits out side my front door. Whether I see spiders or not I spray regularly. My neighbours know when I find one because my screams can be heard for miles!

Luckily I have only had 1 large spider in my apartment this year and it was a dandilonglegs (sp). I am proud to say I am slowly but surely learning to kill them. Years ago if I saw one I would scream followed by a severe asthma attack and all the side effects of my phobia.

I will never travel where there are spiders the size of a car! NOPE NO WAY NO HOW!

PS: if you see a web with lots of babies on it get out a can of spray starch and spray the whole thing. Had a friend do that it worked they all were starched to death!
