Volunteering as a duo, touching lives and spreading smiles
- What’s your name?
Benita and Chris - Where are you from?
Waldorf, Maryland - How are you connected to ITP?
Benita - I was diagnosed with ITP at the age of 5 years old. Chris - I have supported my wife who has ITP since we have been together for 21 years. - How/Why did you get involved with PDSA?
Why do you choose to stay involved? We wanted to learn more about ITP. Benita - I attended my very first conference in July 2020 because it was virtual. After the conference, myself and another lady named Marsha saw a need for a support group in the DMV area. I stay involved because I know how it was to think that I was the only one with this disease. Chris - It is a good support group and helps us navigate the disease. - What is your favorite part about volunteering for PDSA and spreading ITP Awareness?
Benita - I feel that we have touched so many people’s lives that did not know that there were others like them. Chris - It brings me joy when I look at all the smiling faces for the people that we have helped. - How has PDSA impacted your healthy journey?
Benita - I am always learning about new treatments and dos and don’ts with this disease.
Chris - It has given my wife more drive to do better on her journey. - What do you do for school/work?
