Sofia started bleeding internally about 3 weeks after catching the RSV virus on her 2nd Birthday. Her bleeding continued from spotty to severe for nearly 4 months because she was misdiagnosed with the C-Diff bacteria. All babies up to around 2 years naturally carry C-Diff in their gut. It wasn’t until she became critically ill that doctors discovered she has ITP.

Her treatment was a turbulent struggle for months after her ITP diagnosis until we switched children’s hospitals. 10 months later she is finally consistently doing well. She still has ups and downs as ITP causes, but her ups outweigh the downs.

We are so thankful she never got hurt during the long misdiagnosis and we pray bringing awareness to Sofia’s Story will prevent another family from the struggles we endured. Again, she’s thriving majority of the time now thanks to her wonderful care and treatment with Cohen’s Children’s Hospital. We give her 50mg of Promacta every night and it has done wonders to her platelet levels! Our family is infinitely grateful to Cohens Pediatric Hematology team for bringing her health and quality of life back!
