One theory is Th17 cells and Treg cells are imbalanced and thus platlets are tagged for destruction. Natural ways to increase Treg cells is - Probitics, butyraid, Vitamin d3, vitamin a, Dha, b12, green tea extract. This is still pure theory experimentally TH17 or Tregs donot show abnormal levels in experiments with itp patients.
My supplements are based on the following two articles-
At the time I was diagnosed for ITP, count of 12, I was taking:
daily and for many years of those listed on the web page. As a 'shot gun' test, I stopped all of these and many more supplements after diagnoses. Unfortunately, my count did not change. Count remained at 12.
I have to wonder if these sort of supplements improve the performance of your immune system. Specifically, improve the ability of B cells to spin off antibodies, and, improve the spleen/phagocyte system ability to destroy platelets. A count of 12 is pretty low.
For the bad virus I had just prior to ITP, I was on vit d, a cold supplement with garlic, ginseng, elderberry extract, curcumin and ate a good amount of blueberries daily with breakfast. All of those, except the vitamin D as far as I know, have anti platelet activity. Needless to say, I quit them.
Until now, I have considered myself to have a strong immune system as I would rarely get sick and colds would barely register and only last for 48 hrs.
I wonder if the ITP is a product of a bored immune system.
