This article talks about how foods can affect the immune system, causing inflammation and other autoimmune problems.

My Immunologist flat out refuses to accept that any diet can effect your immune systems. Whilst I can accept that any diet will not help with my CVID, I refuse to believe that my diet and general lifestyle can not some effect.

Sure my IgG levels suck but if I was to believe her then I might as well eat what ever the he'll I like, smoke like a chimney and take up drinking.

The way I look at it is every little bit helps and if my diet and general lifestyle can help out tp put less strain on my immune system then surely that must be a good thing

I don't know why doctors are so stubborn about that and refuse to believe it. I think that even nutritionists don't believe most of it; that's not what they are taught.

My husband fought me for over a year...wouldn't believe me (re: gluten and sugar). Then he up and decided out of the blue to eliminate caffeine and sugar, and can't believe how much better he feels (he's even healthy). He tells anyone who will listen, like he's discovered something new, and told me that he does believe me now.

Ghost I'd almost bet your immunologist wouldn't approve of smoking ;)

You know - my IgG was just fine up until about 10 years ago, and then no one told me it was low until I got a hematologist again 2 years ago.

The way I look at it right now is I'm too old to be worrying about it - I'll worry when my hematologist does. I'm too old to not enjoy.

PS - have talked to a nutritionist and she was about a dingy as a bell - asked direct questions, got very little answers. Waste of time!

She hates that I smoke and yeah I am in the process of trying to give up but she really didn't like it when she said that no lifestyle changes will make any difference and I pointed out that smoking is a lifestyle choice :)

I think there's a big difference between lifestyle choices affecting CVID as in immunoglobulin levels, and affecting the general health. We know that getting fat or smoking directly causes various illnesses, as do some vitamin and other food deficiencies but whether it directly causes the immune system to start attacking the body is a whole different thing.

My own immune system is actually quite good considering the low IGs. I don't get nearly as sick as many people who have higher levels than me. Whether that's down to something I am doing rather than good luck, I don't know. Maybe it's my vegetarian diet (or my alcohol intake)!

After suffering with ITP for years I took Wheatgrass and astraforte tablets from the health shop and was cured within a week. Never told the Dr what I took as they would never have believed in herbal remedy. After pumping thousands of dollars of drugs into me for years I can't ignore the fact it worked and have never had low platelets since. If this helps even one person it was worth this post.
