GLYCONUTRIENTS? was created by debrasla
My son is getting WinRhoe today and I am looking more and more into natural ways of raising his platelets. I ran across something called "Glyconutrients". Anyone know or heard of this and if so, has anyone tried it? Does it work?

The company that invented glcyonutrients (glyco means sugar), were Mannatech and they were taken to court in 2007 for deceptive trade practices. They used to claim it cured cancer and diabetes. The court case was a big deal thing at the time and various scientists looked at their claims and their product and said that it did nothing. I didn't know that they were still selling it. I expect they claim far less of it now.

I tried it a few years ago for Lupus. It was pretty expensived so I didn't reorder when it ran out. I did have a reduction in symptoms at the time, but it could have been a coincidence. I've thought about ordering it again, but at $100 a pop I'm not sure if it's worth it. I pay a fortune already for my medications and couldn't afford to add that too.

I've spoken to people who claim it did wonders for Lupus, and I've seen it get a really bad rap. I'm on the fence about it. I've never seen anyone who said that it made a difference for ITP.

What works for one doesn't work for the other - what works for the other doesn't work for one. That's how I look at it.

I started taking a glyconutrient a number of years ago - the number of sinus infections I would get has decreased. So I still take the stuff. Isn't hurting me.

Sandi mine never cost that much!

WHo did you get it from? I got it from Mannatech. I also ordered the ingredients separately from a different company, but didn't know the exact mix and was afraid to mess with it. I never used the stuff.

The Mannatech site said that people with autoimmune disorders had to be careful about which one they used because the wrong one could make things worse by over-stimulating the immune system. Because of that, I really checked it out before I bought one I could use. The capsules were cheaper but you had to take so many the bottle didn't last long. I ordered the mix and it lasted a month.

Mannatech. I didn't/don't take as many as the bottle says.

Debrasla,

My husband has been in remission from Hepatitis C for 5 years since taking Mannatech products. I strongly believe in alternative medicines/supplements, especially what they offer. It is very pricey though. If you research the ingredients of their products and how they are designed you will understand why they can work for people.
* I know that Hep C is not like ITP but nonetheless, I wanted to share my opinion on their products. I haven't tried the Glyconutrients for ITP, but I do give the Glyco-bears to my kiddos.
If you are interested, I have had great success with a Naturopathic Doctor in Houston who does forensic hair analysis testing. It turned my platelets from bottomed out to 192,000 in a little over 1 week (after taking the supplements recommended from my test results). I was scheduled for WinRhoe next too.
Best of luck to you :)
Heather
