The haematologist did not give plt...it was when I got admitted 3 weeks back with plt less then 10 they medical dr gave me a short of transfusion n it went up to 46 but after that it drop to 25 that's where I was refered to haematologist n then they did a series of blood test which confirmed I had itp....I m 38 so the haematologist thinks I can op out for watchful waiting...at the time of admission I had 3 big bbruises and red spot which is gone by now...I m just on vit c supp..papaya leaf extract...n fruits....diet...it has been 2 weeks I m on weekly plt check count it has remain 26 .n 25.... I m worried n confuse whether I should also take the offer of starting steroids....any advice
I wouldn't take steroids at that count. Sometimes, or even often, we see people take steroids and when they finish them they end up with an even lower count than when they started. It's more usual nowadays to worry about the symptoms rather than the numbers. If you bleed at lower counts then of course you will need to treat.
I was told many things about ITP ....as it is a new diagnosis to me....the dr s did tell me I can bleed intra cranial haemorrhage....go into coma....etc with low platlets.....this has been worrying me as for today my count has been 25 ...without any treatment...every week is like I'm sitting for some examination ...anxious....anyone did the same option as I did in this group....at least this will ease me a little:(
I know that the doctors do scare you--but a count of 25 with hardly no symptoms isn't that bad. I agree with Ann; I couldn't take any steriods unless my platelets started to fall. My platelets were all the way to 1 and I still made the doctors take it slow with me. I treated with Decadron pulses becauses my platelets kept falling to 1. Now they have been stable. If my platelets stayed at 25, I, myself, wouldn't let them treat me. This is just my own personal opinion.

I have been taking this for 6 weeks with no luck. I understand with these remedies this just might not fix my underlying problem. It would be useful to know how long you took the extract before seeing results.? Thank you.
Went to doctor to have vitamins levels checked. As I reported recently my cbc on May 26 was 6k, and July 9 was 19k, and yesterday, July 25 they were 26k! Wow, was I ever happy. They have not been in upper 20's since Oct. 2011 which was over 10.5 months.
I am still having the B12 injection every 2 weeks. However, I received my B12 levels today and they were a little high. I am not sure if there are any side effects from high B12 levels. I did just have the injection prior to the blood test for the B12 levels. It might not be completely accurate.
Anyway, I'm thrilled that my cbc count is up to 26k! I still have some bruising and light peteachi on legs.

Congratulations Ranjit!! I do think diet has an important part in helping ITP. I've been reading the book: Eat to Live. The author was at the ITP conference and he talks a lot about eating a large amount of vegetables and fruit in your diet to help you stay healthy and well. Some of the veggies and fruit are mentioned in the book.
It seems like it is helping you. I've been trying to change my diet (a little at a time ) to more veggies and fruit.
HI ALL .....I JUST RECIEVED A NEW CBC COUNT MY PLATELETS WENT FROM 42K ON 8/7/12 TO 56K ON 8/30/12 NEEDLES TO SAY I AM HAPPY ABOUT THAT. I WANT TO THANK RANJIT, LADY ELLIE, FOR YOUR ADVICE.. I HAVE ADDED VIT C TO MY TREATMENT...................AGAIN THANK YOU ALL............FRANKIE34
Hi Frankie ...I am happy that your counts are up...an update of my counts done last week 157 now...I have been on a liquid drop recommended by my GP....it's call CellFood drops actually been on it for two weeks and just after one week I took it my counts has gone up last week to 157 from 131.....I am taking extract once a week ever since it has been 131....I think cellfood drops are also amazing ....it contains several vitamins and enzymes...it's a plant extract...perharps it may help you too...but very important the fruits and veg that I mention must be maintained...finally I wish you speedy recovery
Hi Ranjit Thank you for the information, Your info, is very helpful. I will continue on this regimen, along with the vitamin c, you mentioned.I will look into cellfood, if my results, donot continue upward. again I thank you. Frankie
Yes, the extract itself is made by soaking the cut and sifted or ground up papaya leaves in water, with about 25% alcohol added as a preservative. What the researchers used for cancer regression was simply a water extract of papaya leaves. The stronger the extract was, the better the results they obtained. And it showed no toxicity at any dose level. The tea works very well: my daughters platelets, which have always been relatively low (below normal, at least), increased hers from 90 to 160 in 3 days by drinking strong cups of tea. Her platelets have never been that high before. Here is an article that was in the Herald Tribune, about a man in the icu with dengue fever whose platelets were 3000, 10,000 after multiple blood transfusions, and raised his platelets to 450,000 in 2 days, with the juice from (probably) fresh papaya leaves:
It seems to be the norm for people to sign up as 'an interested person' and then a daughter later appears.
I have read a bit about papaya and dengue and there does seem to be something in that, but dengue is nowhere near the same as ITP and the two should not be confused. Dengue is caused by a virus and ITP is caused by antibodies so what works for one is unlikely to work for the other.
I have no interest in selling it. I am not a vendor of anything whatsoever. I am a consumer who has had a lifelong interest in herbs, seeing what works and what doesn't. I have a very small income, no health insurance, and am obliged to take care of myself no matter what happens. That is why I am very interested when I read that papaya leaf does apparently have anti-cancer (and pro-platelet) potential. And a very strong decoction of dried papaya leaves did and has worked for my daughter. No doubt the fresh leaves work better, but they are not available where I live (an area where the winters regularly drop to -40 deg Fahrenheit). It just seems a shame to me that someone would willingly have their spleen, a vital organ, removed (which also is often ineffective) without trying something simple that may work. Do you ask your surgeon when he advises spleenectomy if he is just trying to make his boat payment?I like to share what I know about herbs, but if nobody here is interested, okay.
Thanks, la0508, I think a lot of people are interested in talking about herbs here. You needed to make it clear that you weren't trying to sell something, the link to a specific vendor and your sudden appearance made us suspicious. I'd say there is lots of interest here in the kind of personal story and research you have to share.
And she was!
Diagnosed May 2005, lowest count 8K.
4/22/08: 43K (2nd Rituxan)
10/01/09: 246K, 1/8/10: 111K, 5/21/10: 233K
Latest count: 7/27/2015: 194K
That's very true! We all need to be open-minded. Sometimes it might work for one person, but not another due to different meds (or something) that the other person is taking that interfers.
I am currently reading Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman, M.D., who attended the last PDSA Conference. There is a lot of very useful information in his book regarding our diet and what influences our health. I am trying to incorporate some of his information into my own diet and my husband's. I can relate to his book in the same way that the Papaya leaf is used.
I JUST RECENTLY HAD A CBC 11/27/2012,MY PLATELETS ARE AT 52K I AMA CONTINUING THE PAPAYA EXTRACT, WITH VIT C. APPEARS TO BE WORKING, WILL KNOW MORE ON MY NEXT APPOINTMENT, ON JAN 14 2013,TO ALL,HAVE A HEALTHY, 2013. FRANKIE34
