I was unable to start Rixutan last week because my platelets were too low. So we did IVIG and dexamethasone 4 MG tablet (10 a day). Is this the same as a steroid? I'm having loss of appetite and red face. Nothing taste right, not even water. Is this normal?

  • Diagnosed October 2016 Steroids, IVIG, Rituxin, Promacta, Spleen removed, Rituxin again. Currently weaning off Promacta and Prednisone.

Dex is a steroid. I have not taken it before myself. It is usually given for just a few days and stopped where prednisone is a daily med.

4mg of Dexamethasone is roughly equivalent to 25mg of prednisolone

I had Rituxan with counts of 3k. I don't understand why they couldn't do it. Dex is a very potent steroid.

I agree with sandi, i don't understand why they didn't give it to you. I just had treatments with counts of 11k-12k the day prior. They would also give me the dexamethasone to bump go along with the treatments but i was never turned away. As for the drug, it has been the strongest for bumping up my counts but I have also felt the most side effects from it.
