So, I'm not one to panic over every little thing, but this situation with the Astra/Zeneca vaccine has me a wee tad nervous. From what I have read, all the issues with it in Europe is all from one batch. And according to our national health doctors, Canada doesn't have any doses from that batch.
We are still going to get our shots and we see our doctor 2 days later so I think I will ask him for a CBC to check my counts. I am in remission, so maybe I'll be okay.

Cindy I would think that if there was any doubt Canada would suspend giving AZ.
Fingers crossed for a smooth and event free vaccination!!

Thanks, ladies!
And yeah, Canada wouldn't use it if we didn't trust it.

I am living in Australia and have been in remission for a few years. We will be getting the Astra Zeneca vaccine soon and I would like to know if anyone had taken it and what treatment you are on. Am thinking of going on prednisolone before taking the vaccine to keep platelets up.

I think you would be putting the horse before the cart if you are not on a treatment and took prednisone just to keep platelets up when you don't even know if platelets will drop! I'd be more concerned that taking prednisone for no reason would mess with the vaccine.

CindyL and non-ITP husband recently had AZ - she is in the process of moving and will be without internet for a few days once moved - as of the last I heard she has no signs of a platelet drop.

angel, like mel said, my hubby and I got the AZ shots last week. I've been in remission since 2011. Neither one of us had any issues.
Busy day packing and taking stuff to storage. Not a lot left, but I won't be on tomorrow so I'll check in when the internet is back up and running.
Hope everyone has a great Easter!

I had blood work done this past Tuesday but unless there is a problem, I won't know about it until we see the doctor in a week or so. Feel fine tho. No bruises.

Cindy I'm delighted you have no bruises!!
Since your CBC was on Tuesday and it is now Saturday would they have gotten in touch with you by now if there was a big drop?

I would think so. I did have some other tests done, so he may be waiting on results from all that. We see him on the 26th.

The policy at my clinic is if count is below 20 contact the patient otherwise it can wait until clinic appointment.

That makes sense to me. I doubt my counts have dropped any.

I see my new hematologist, in person this time not via phone as in January, next month so plan to ask how soon he releases my CBC results so that I can see them on the web page - in the past it takes a day or 2.

Sounds like you will find out in 2 weeks Cindy - wish you could call and ask.

Mel, I probably could call. Never thought of that. I guess I'm sure my counts are fine and am willing to wait to see him in person. If I had symptoms, I would probably call.

I'm with you Cindy - why call if no symptoms or "feeling" [that's how I knew my counts had hit the gutter, just a feeling"]

So, good news.
Steven and I are booked for our second shots! He'll get his this Friday (the 11th) and I get mine on the 18th. We will not be getting the AZ, but the Pfizer, thank God.

Yes! And I'm glad it's not the AZ. I was really nervous about getting that one again.

We'll still be wearing our masks too.
My sister gets her second shot this Friday too. My brother just got his first one the past Sunday so he has to wait a while.

I'm still wearing my masks, with my immune system I'm only comfy in certain situations without a mask. Didn't wear one at the nursery today because I was outside and so were the cash registers - did wear one in the grocery store.

Great your sister has her 2nd and your brother has his 1st - my 12 year old Granddaughter got her 1st Pfizer, will be 2 weeks on Friday, & has her 2nd one scheduled. I'm proud of her for wanting to get the vaccine!
