Promacta helps me, I feel like it is the reason for my "steriod blimp" gain just without the extreme irritablity and without Prednisone (which is on my "Don't even think about it list to medical staff.). I know there has to be others that have this side effect.

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

What is your Promacta dose? I'm on 25 mg every other day during my prednisone taper (currently 6.5/6 alternating days). I didn't have the blimp side-effect during my 18+ years on pred--but now am having the opposite problem, which is rather scary--can't keep my weight up. I don't assume it is the drugs causing this--but I don't know WHAT is causing it.

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

Karen I haven't put on weight at all during 4.5 years of steroids or since starting Promacta 2 years ago.
