Hi Everyone! My 2-year-old son was diagnosed with ITP about 4 months ago. I have made a video with some practical tips for easing the pain and stress of blood draws. I hope someone will find it helpful. If you get nothing else from it, remember to inquire about the use of numbing creams! youtu.be/a1YEoheUU6A

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

Very informative video.
As one who has performed paediatric phlebotomy I would add this to the commentary.
Easier to wrap clingfilm around the arm/hand over the cream, less painful to remove than Band Aid plasters + no need for parents to use plasters too.
Lignocaine 4% cream should last for at least 2 hours.
Cover 25mmx25mm areas with cream.
A parent/carer's hand is an effective tourniquet and less upsetting for little ones than the rubber/elastic ones.
