I am enjoying Sauna but I was advised to be careful by one particular doctor to whom I dont trust completely.

I came over this article about benefits of Sauna in platelets.

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7331554/

Would it be of help?

From the article you cited:
"The results suggest a tendency to an increased activity of the blood coagulation system."

However that means that the blood clots more - no thank you, all I can think of is stroke when I hear that. It doesn't seem to mean that one will have an increase in platelet count or that it is of any real benefit to an ITPer. You know what they give people who have had a heart attack don't you - med to decrease platelets.

What is meant by coagulation of blood?
Definition: blood coagulation. blood coagulation. Also called blood clotting. A process in which blood changes from a free-flowing liquid to a semi-solid gel.

I guess there are people who shouldn't use it but Blood clotting, or coagulation, is an important process that prevents excessive bleeding when a blood vessel is injured. It is exactly what some of us needs. As usual, it is an area worth deserving a study. My counts were higher when doing sauna and lower now when I don't have one at hand. A coincidence? Maybe

www.klafs.com/health/faq-for-well-being/varicose-veins-vein-disorders.html

You’ll often find articles in newspapers and magazines which claim that saunas are not good for varicose veins. However, affected veins will not get worse as a result of the vascular dilation which occurs when using a sauna. On the contrary – it can significantly improve the flow of blood, which in turn decreases the risk of blood clotting (thrombosis). And using the sauna can “exercise” any veins which are not as yet affected. Nonetheless, it may be worth covering badly affected areas of skin and pronounced varicose veins with a cold, damp cloth. And sufferers should not allow their legs to dangle. During your last couple of minutes in the sauna, sit up slowly and rotate your feet. As soon as you leave the sauna, you should then hose down your feet with cold water, before you cool down in the fresh air. If you are suffering from phlebitis, you should refrain from using the sauna until the symptoms have settled. If you suffer from thrombosis, you should not use the sauna until the thrombus “has healed”.

I would rather not increase my ability to clot and then have a stroke - our platelets are bigger since they are new.
If this was something of great importance I'm sure the experts would have been telling us long ago to get in a sauna.
Just my opinion

There are not enough studies to affirm many things. Sauna is one of them but the list is long:
- Flying
- Cardio exercises
- Particular food or drinks...... you name it.

It would all be much easier if there are conclusive studies on effects of platelets and health in people with itp.
