My mother is in her 70's and is over all in fairly good health. She has had ITP for some time and was doing OK with it over all. But her count went down to 1 last week and is currently in the hospital. they just checked it this morning and her count is now 0. I do not know what to do? how do we fing and DR that can help. Should we try to get her into another hospital? she sees a hematologist in our small town but the Dr does not specialize in ITP. my question is what would you do if it was your mother? what is a safe lvl to let them send you home? is it safe to be at home with counts in the 0-1-2 range. and how do we go about finding someone that can help her?
Thanks I tried searching but had no luck looking for anyone with the same concerns. I am sure I am not the first. But we have no idea what we should do. now they are only letting her have one visitor a day

truckel, all good questions to ask of your local doctor or doctors.

I would comment that finding a Hematologist that specializes in ITP is a pretty tall order. ITP isn't that common. From what I've seen on this forum, hospitals will often administer steroids and IVIG. Then see if that does or doesn't work, which may be where you are at now. If it doesn't, go on to Nplate - which stimulates one's bones to make more platelets. A vast majority of folks will respond to Nplate. Further, it can stop bleeding, even if platelet count values don't materially rise.

Good luck !
