Hello everyone

In February of 2019 I was newly diagnosed. In my head I was certain that I must have been fighting some sort of infection in my system to cause my platelets to go down to 70. I'm perfectly healthy! I don't drink or do drugs and was feeling great. The last visit to my hematologist in November 2019 showed that my platelets rose to 149. I was so happy and was convinced that whatever infection I was fighting was gone. My doctor couldn't explain it either and said that whatever I was doing to keep doing it.

Just had my annual physical this month and my platelets were at 107. Better than 70 but not as good as 149. I try not to worry about the numbers just as long as I am feeling good and no evidence of count being too low. Need to go back next month for another blood draw to find out which way they are headed. In all my 60 years I have never had an issue with my platelets and for all I know I could have had this all my life.

I feel absolutely wonderful. Definitely don't feel 60. I walk 5+ miles a day or bike ride. I have started adding leafy greens and other foods to my diet that are supposed to boost the count. We will see where we are next month.

I hope I don't see counts in the 70's or god forbid below. Is it possible for someone to live a happy and healthy life with the fluctuation such as mine?

Over here in the UK your count needs to less than 100 to be diagnosed with ITP. Treatment starts at below 30 with the aim of raising to over 50. The lowest you had was 70. I was working on the NHS front line with counts in single figures. ITP doesn't rule my life I do. Enjoy your life and quit worrying.

I'm with mrsb - enjoy your life and don't worry (get a count done every now and then to keep on top of things). I moved to Tokyo very shortly after being diagnosed with a count of 11k and dropping, looking like I'd been beaten with a 2x4 in a back alley. I do recall after we moved back to the States & I had been sick that my count rose to 401k and my hematologist said I was better and she didn't need to see me again - not long after my count was way down and I was seeing her again.

I would feel wonderful if I could sleep - I never ever felt ill or bad or anything but healthy when my count hit the gutter.

You take care - for you own peace of mind get your count done when your hematologist says to - and we hope you don't have to come baaaack :) Good luck!

I agree with Mel and mrsb, don't worry about the count! I used to get so worked up about it, but I realized that there wasn't much I could do to control it! Just live life in the moment ad stay happy!
