I have itp
usually my normal is 120 which is fine.
during pregnancy my platelets start dropping

I am now 29 weeks.
Last week I did a blood test tuesday and it was 46 so I got a urgent hemotologist appointment and he put me on 20 mg prednisone.
I'm nervous to take the prednisone due to side effects. In the hemotologist office (we) I did another blood test and it went back to 60 so I decided not to fill the prescription yet. I will do another blood test tommorow.
but when did you get put on prednisone for low platelets. I know I will need a c-section.

20 mg's isn't too high of a dose. It's tolerable. Not fun, but definitely easier than 60 mg's.

You will need to get counts up before the surgery, but it's a bit early. I'm not sure why they want you on Prednisone now, although it would be a good trial to see if it works for you before you deliver.

I think he put me on it because my hemotoligist was going away for 3 weeks and it was 46 so he was afraid of it dropping more.
I didn't take the prednisone yet as i'm waiting for todays blood count.

By my last pregnancy I did need to go much higher then 60 mg for it to work - but I guess because it's early he's starting small.
is there any reason they would schedule my c-section earlier because of the platelets?

The only reason I can think of would be if you were getting close to the due date and counts were good. They might just decide to go for it while counts were up instead of taking a chance on a drop. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any reason to do it early.

so my platelets are now 50
my hematologist wants me on prednisone. my high risk dr doesn't as my last baby was very large due to prednisone and he's afraid it will cause diabetes.
so now I'm just waiting to speak to the hematologist next week
