Im curentlly 14 weeks pregnant and my counts were fine in the first trimester. ...now that im in my second trimester they have fallen to 20...my OB and Hemo decided on 2 bags of platelets and 3 days of ivig. ...my question to any of you is....Did you have to do treatment once or did you continue treatment the throughout the pregnancy. Just wanting to know what I might be in for.

I've had treatment once at 14 weeks pregnant with IVIG and my count was 13K. I've had ITP for almost 5 years and have never been given a platelet infusion. Platelet infusions are not a standard treatment for ITP since your body will destroy then anyway.

My hematologist goes more with my symptoms than the numbers.

I received lots and lots of treatments while pregnant - prednisone, dex pulse, whin ro (and transfusions for resulting low red counts), IVIG, spleen removed second trimester, and delivery with whole blood and platelet transfusions. I probably could have gone without all of them except the transfusions, but bottom line is I have a healthy 8 year old and am still alive and kicking. IVIG isn't that risky, just expensive. I think treatment close to term is really more about the OBs worries about HELP than the ITP. If you are getting lots of transfusions, you might ask if single donor is a possibility. It reduces associated risks.
