I'm not pregnant but one day want to be has anyone had success with having a bad case where your not at 40 but like 3 or 5 with no treatment ? Ivig was working every two weeks for me but now it's lasting about five days. I'm going back on nplate to save the ivig for an unexpected emergency treatment. I am on the hospital right now with a count of 3 and hemoglobin of seven due to a ridiculous period that won't stop a gynecologist just came in and I had made a comment that one day I would like to have my own children and he said don't take my card. To be honest struck me badly I've always wanted kids and wasn't happy with that response at all. Thanks guys any help would be appreciated

How discouraging! My thought is: by the time you are ready to have a child, your situation might have changed or treatments might get better. You never know. If not, there are specialists who should be willing to take on a high risk patient.

Keli,

I found out I was pregnant with a count of 8k. I then went to a hatemotologist and he suggested dexamethasone of 40mg daily x 4 days to boost my counts, but i was not comfortable with the idea of the drug and we came to a compromise of taking prednisone at the minimum dose. The hatemotologist advised to start off with 30mg for a week and we watch and see, but since Ive always responded well, I have asked for a lower dose at 10mg. In 2 weeks my count went up to about 50k, then another 2-3 weeks of 7,5mg I was at about 80mg. The hatemo does not need to see me as long as my counts does not fall below 30k and I began to taper it off on my own - which is totally not recommended. My counts now stands in the 100s, I am 26 weeks.

Dont get discouraged. There must always be a way out albeit a more difficult and inconvenient.

Rgds
Steph
